My husband, a bunch of friends, and I tried Nonna's in Jensen Beach. We heard Kyle G took it over and how great it was, so we had dinner there on 9/9/23. I'll start with the ambiance. There is a lovely garden in the back where you can wait. We had taken a relatively late reservation (7:45) but were still made to wait about 15 min. Not too big a deal, but we were all hungry when we sat down. The waitress was humorless though efficient at least initially. We were never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee, so her efficiency disappeared.
The deal breaker was the food. This place was a one and done. Three of our party ordered chicken parmagian and none liked it. Something about the consistency of the chicken was off. My husband said it was like a chopped chicken patty, our friend who ordered a chicken parm sandwich, did not like his either! One person ordered a shrimp and pesto pizza. She thought it was OK, I tasted it and did not care for the consistency , there was a grainy texture I couldnt get past. One person ordered salmon, she said it was OK. One person ordered linguini and clam sauce which came out looking really good and actually was really good, according to our friend. I do not eat meat and unless I wanted pizza or pasta these was almost nothing on the menu that did not contain pancetta or sausage etc. I asked if they could make a shrimp dish, which they did. It was tasty but the shrimp were few and microscopic, probably a 40 count. They did it in a marsala sauce which was a bit thick but tasty. We did tell the manager who came by (to tell us that my friend's pizza had been burnt so they were waiting for a new one) that the chicken was not good. Crickets! No reaction! I would not go back. We traveled 45 minutes for less then mediocre food. Two stars because the garden was a nice...
Read moreNonna’s restaurant is excellent!
Our server Megan was on point. She was very knowledgeable and professional. We had never been to Nonna’s before, but my wife and I had heard about it & a server named Megan from friends who had frequented this restaurant recently. They were right about the restaurant and about our server! When we arrived we asked to be seated in her section and our enjoyable evening ensued. Megan treated us like family… (And not the kind of family that you don’t get along with from time to time!😄) I asked her for suggestions of what to eat that evening, and I was not disappointed by her recommendations. The veal was excellent! The roasted garlic/herb dipping sauce for our bread was out of this world! We had a very enjoyable time that evening. So much so that we came back for a second night. We were greeted at the door by staff member Jennifer. She recognized use from the evening before. She advised that Megan was not on staff currently because she had the night off. Therefore, Jennifer set us up well by seating us in server Dawn’s area. Our second evening was no disappointment. Dawn was very knowledgeable as well and met our every expectation. “Round two” at Nonna’s was a great success! We highly recommend this restaurant to anybody who loves a quaint atmosphere and delicious food. You will not be disappointed if you are a foodie like me!!
Thank you Megan, Jennifer and Dawn for two wonderful dining experiences.
Respectfully, E- I usually take pictures and post, but I was experiencing such good evenings that I forgot! We will have to go again and then post...
Read moreFor a Kyle G's restaurant, this was a tremendous disappointment. Our 4 meals were subpar. Oil served with bread was tasteless. Bartender was CONFUSED whether they had the ingredients to make their highlighted special cocktail, The Snowbird. I ordered sangria and then was informed that they DO have the ingredients for Snowbird. It was essentially a tart cranberry juice with blueberries and ice- sent that back. Got a sangria, only fruit in it - lime, lemon, and one cherry - also awful. We waited an hour for 4 meals. Pappardelle was so undercooked that it had to be cut with a knife. Chicken Francese was cold. Sauce was flavorless, rigatoni was dry, undercooked, and cold. Saltimbocca was 2 small veal scallopine completely wrapped in prosciutto and overcooked. Veal marsala served with rigatoni on the side - the marinara was so burnt, and we couldn't tell it was veal.
Waitress was really good, and uber apologetic about our wait and sent over the manager, who comped our drinks and went to the kitchen to ask about our meals. He served them personally and should be ashamed that the chef, whatever other kitchen staff, and HE didn't see the poor quality he was serving us. After talking with us, he comped everything but 2 dinners and sent us some desserts. FYI- Limoncello cake was fantastic. Frankly, we shouldn't have paid for anything, but we didn't come for free meals, we came for delicious ones.
It's not about $. It's about quality, and boy did Nonna's disappoint. Won't be willing to give it a second chance,...
