Old School Ice Cream — Restaurant in Florida

Cute homespun decor and inviting for kids. Honestly it's good for kids and adults but for more refined taste for ice cream flavor, I'd go somewhere else. Some of the ice cream flavors we had were a bit too artificial tasting like the banana. If you don't mind that, it's still just okay. Milkfat % is lower, if you know ice cream, you know. They also seemed annoyed when we got there at 8:30p when they closed at 9 and had the chairs upside-down cleaning already which was less inviting to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. There were others still coming in so it was kind of like, are you still open or not? Our items which were a float and a milkshake we okay but not great. Also kinda weird with the kids toys right at the front of the store and handwritten menu down on the floor on a poster board. It could use a bit more organization, bigger fonts, and placement for visibility so you don't miss anything offered. My family owned a dairy and an adjacent ice cream diner. All ice cream was made in house. Nuts were roasted and served warm and sauces were not syrups out of a jar but homemade. Went in and asked for just a single scoop of Vanilla. Asked several times to make sure it was just a single scoop. Just one small single scoop.

I was told yes 1 single scoop and I paid. While waiting, because it seemed to be a while, I walked over to see the woman scooping more and more ice cream. I said I only wanted one scoop. She turned around with (what I would consider 3 scoops) and says this is our one scoop. It was one very large and one "half" scoop on top.

You should let people know what you consider one scoop or different sizes.

I am a Diabetic, I should not be eating this and that is why I specifically asked for a small single scoop. I don't get ice cream often because of this. I don't like revealing personal info like that but maybe it will help the next person because I will never go back there.

To the owners when someone asks for something specific there is usually a reason. Maybe you should explain what your sizes are. I wish you success in you business but...

From the Tampa area it was great my family loved it for the diabetic person that was complaining about a small being 3 small scoops = 1 large single. Mine did to and I am diabetic and I put one of the scoops in the trash and enjoyed, don’t stress out over nonsense. The other person who thought it was pricey must get ice cream from McDonalds or Burger King because you get twice as much ice cream for the price than we get any where else when it comes to hard ice cream. They should always use a napkin or paper towel. Yes I would of been upset if they handed it to me bare handed. Nice place to go but make room for the rest of us if you think it’s to pricey compared to your fast food soft serve, and don’t have enough common since to roll of one or two scoops of the 3 single scoops = 1 large scoop in the trash with a napkin of course....
