Saw this place on Yelp and it seemed to have a little bit of a New Orleans / Cajun vibe to it. As a south Louisiana native I was craving a po boy. I came in and was graded by a friendly staff. I ordered a bowl of gumbo and the mullet backbone appetizer. I'm extremely picky about my gumbo and it's hard to find someone who can make it better than me but this one was definitely quality for the emerald Coast. A nice dark roux gave this gumbo a great flavor but the shrimp and crab was a bit mushy as of course it had been reheated. Totally understandable because no one is going to cook gumbo fresh everyday. I was amazed when the mullet appetizer hit the table and it was so many backbones that I figured it was no way I could possibly eat an entree after that. It could have fed eight people. of course the backbone is just what's left over after the fillet but there was a decent amount of delicious tender meat on each one of these back bones and it was fried to perfection and seasoned well. I went ahead and took most of these home because I was still craving that po boy period. I ordered the combination popcorn shrimp and oyster Po boy and although it did not come with authentic New Orleans style French bread, it was overflowing with seafood. The shrimp and oysters were also fried to perfection and delicious. Fresh ripe tomatoes pickles and lettuce accompanied. I actually had to take some of the shrimp and oysters off and put it into my to-go box in order to get this sandwich closed. The po-boy did not disappoint and it definitely hit the spot. I highly recommend this place. One thing to note is that on Yelp it is listed as being inexpensive place and I'm here to tell you that it is not at all and that the quality and price...
Read moreWe went for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon and there were not enough servers. The one young server they had did not know how to prioritize her service. She continued to put people at tables and taking drink orders without taking food orders. Then she slammed the kitchen with food orders one right after the other. As a result, we waited about 90 minutes from the time we came in until the time we got our food. The food was okay, but it certainly was not worth the wait. About an hour after we arrived, they finally sent out another server, but by then, the damage had already been done. We never received drink refills without asking several times. The response was "I'll be right with you." I finally got up and headed toward the tea dispenser when she grabbed my cup, filled it, then handed it back to me. When it came time to pay, after being in there for over two hours and waiting for 10 minutes for the waitress to take our payment, I had to chase someone down to pay. Management obviously needs to train their people better and schedule at least two waitresses at all times. Also schedule more than one cook at all times! It will be a while, if ever, before I return. I'm beginning to wonder if that place is cursed. So many restaurants have come and gone in that place in the past...
Read moreWaited several minutes to be sat down. Our waitress, Hannah, would be best described as a food runner. We asked for a different high chair that had a leg divider and she advised they didn’t have any. We later found a stack of them in the other room. The food is mediocre of all the times we have ate there. They’re always out of something every time we go. At the end of the meal, I was offered a refill that I declined due to the tea tasting watered down. Hannah responded with “oh, just like the mullet that you ate”
Rather than embarrass her, we elected to leave. I am assuming she is new to the industry and not experienced given how many times we had to ask for things.
The mullet was dry and overcooked.
We ordered a side of fries for the baby, it was brought out 5ish minutes after we all received our food. I had fries with mine, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t come out with the rest.
I will likely roll this place up with the same service mentality as Texas Roadhouse. Which is that it’s easier to apologize and attempt to make it better rather than provide a positive experience in the first place. When we left, someone had vomited in the parking lot, which wasn’t there when we pulled in. Maybe we weren’t the only ones who had a bad...
