My childhood memories of a wooden spoon? Getting to lick the 'from scratch' brownie mix off of one while mom was handing the mixer beaters to my brother! Ahhhhhhhh
Fast forward to this past weekend. Spent quality time with some old friends. Looking for a breakfast respite, they knew exactly where to take me. Here is my 'take' on this darling of a diner....
Cozily cuddled into a strip mall we entered into the light & bright inner sanctum. My first impression was... the staff was happy, cheerful and bubbling over with personality! (Awesome always, but ESPECIALLY in these tough times!) Our server, or I'll say 'cheerleader', was Christy D! This young lady doesn't miss a beat! She welcomes you, gets your drinks, takes your orders, all the while taking plenty of time to actually chat! Clone this woman, please!! LOL
My friend of the female persuasion had been telling me about the apparent signature item The Wooden Spoon has for breakfast. Cinnamon Roll Pancakes. Imagine one of those huge cinnamon rolls, freshly hot from the oven. THAT is how she described these syrupy sensations. And THAT is what she was going to order! Me??? I knew there was no way I could fully absorb a plateful of cinnamon heaven, so I opted for a Greek Spinach Omelet. With hashbrowns.
Here comes Christy with our fresh from the flat top flavorites! When I SAW her SET those Cinnamon Roll Pancakes down, I literally had to pick my chin up off the table. I looked up at my friend and all I saw was this look of wanton desire come across her face. Followed by a whole lotta 'yummming' going on as she dug in!
I'm thoroughly enjoying my Mediterranean inspired 3 egg folded fantasy when I get a forkfull of sinful cinnamon sweet held in front of me. I take that obligatory bite. I was transported back to a place where every morsel meant a happy childhood. Thanks for the memories!
After a meal like this, just HOW do you top it? As we were leaving, each and every one of the servers swung by to bid us farewell and thanked us for stopping in. We all talked. We all laughed. WE waved a wistful adieu until we meet...

The cranberry juice cocktail was great and a large serving size. Its taste leaned more towards the cranberry where you could taste and feel a little of the bitterness more than grape or apple for a cocktail juice.
The decor was unique.
There was a couple seated next to us who left because we were seated before our party of 5. We had our drinks and orders placed even though their party of 2 were there first.
The food was like a typical all American diner a hodgepodge of breakfast and lunch served all day.
Unfortunately we witnessed a theme with the clientele. A consensus from a Regional Sales VP from one of the largest companies in the world based here in Florida, a caterer, entrepreneur, retired military family. Individually we all saw the same thing. 👀😔
I noticed the blueberry and lemon French toast special from the board. So I decided to try something new. It was different. By the time I was halfway through it was just too sweet for me. The flavor was like a cinnamon roll with lemon and blueberries. Maybe it was because of the cream cheese icing. Which I had never had French toast taste like a cinnamon roll. Maybe they added cinnamon to the cream cheese icing.
We asked for soft scrambled and they weren’t so we told the waitress. She was startled and looked like she didn’t know what to do.
The pancakes were large in size but tough.
Normally, my reviews are fully detailed, but I think I’ll end this here.
The cranberry juice cocktail was good. Our waiter did try to make the experience better. She did. It’s just a place we won’t...
Read moreThis was my second visit - the first a few weeks before with a friend and lunch. On this visit, it was on the one day of the week (Friday) they are open a little later than usual. My mother and I ordered the tenderloin sandwich. It came with coleslaw, a pickle and an abundant supply of french fries. It was the best tenderloin sandwich I have ever had, and that is saying something.
I hale from Iowa, where pork is king and tenderloin sandwiches a State favorite. Sorry to my Iowa upbringing, this was better. We heard the chef pounding it flat right after we ordered, but the meat was still a quarter inch, breaded and had an excellent taste. I added mustard, which is a staple in Iowa. This one came with a tomato, lettuce and sauce of some kind. Absolutely terrific and I will be back for more.
On my first visit, I had the normal diner staple of a Patty Melt. That was good too. The service then as it was in this most recent visit was friendly, attentive and the waitresses are very nice and polite.
This restaurant is good if you come by yourself, do takeout, or have a small group like my mom, wife and me; or bigger group where tables can be combined.
The full menu offers a variety food that should...
