When I am out of town I always try to go to a local restaurant to support the locals. Sometimes the locals make it hard and act like they don't want your business.

We were a party of 3. As we were to sit down at a table an employee I assume a waitress was cleaning the table next to the one we ended up sitting at. She looked up at me and I asked if we can just sit anywhere. She didn't say anything in response then went back to cleaning the table. Every employee we past didn't even as much smile or bothered to say anything to us. At times it seemed like they were deliberately avoiding us. We looked over the menu and decided on what we wanted. We waited and waited but, nobody ever came to even acknowledge us. Twenty minutes passed and we were going to be late to the event we were heading to so we got up and left. Still not a single person did anything to acknowledge us. I noticed a couple of men came in and within 2 minutes somebody approached them. There was sufficient staff and it wasn't overly busy. The only conclusion I could think of is we were brown people. On the outside of the building there is a big sign that said they honor the military pass and present. Well I am a 100% disabled American military veteran. They totally ignored me and my party. I hate to be ignorant and stoop down to someone's level. In this case I am just going to come out and say it because they deserve it whether it was intentional or accidental. The staff must have thought they were better than us. We may be brown skinned but, at least our teeth aren't brown and we still have...

I'm a breakfast fanatic and NEED my iced coffee. I pass by this location everyday on the way to work. About 3 weeks ago I noticed they now serve breakfast. My mother-in-law and I decided to try them out this morning, and I'm so glad we did. The lady was as sweet as a peach, and the food was delicious and we were served fast! The prices are a little high, compared to what I'm used to paying for my daily breakfast (Denny's or McDonald's) but it is so worth it! It just won't be a daily thing, more of a after pay day extravagance. The one thing I know now, is the order of biscuits and gravy is huge! My eggs (over medium) was cooked THE BEST I've ever had. The toast has the perfect amount of brushed(?) melted butter. They brought me jelly (which I had the choices of apple butter, grape, strawberry, and honey). We NEVER ran out of coffee and was even given to go cups. The coffee cups are VERY small BUT you we were given the whole pot to refill as needed. The ham steak was super tasty but hard to cut. The home fries were...

Been here a few times and usually very good food and very good service. Neither were present this time. Service was extremely slow. Understand about staffing but this was two hours of service to get our food. It wasn't that busy and yes, I agree to bring to management's attention first, but our server just shrugged her shoulders when we asked and explained "they're just really slow tonight." In addition - EVERY piece of food from the frier tasted burnt. Something must have burned in there and it imparted it's burnt flavor gift to all the other foods fried behind it. Our server explained there were no other complaints that night except ours. we didn't want to wait until they made more so we endured as we were very hungry by that time. Apps came out piece meal when they were ready. Nothing served together. Dinner was served two and two had to wait. just disappointing as I had two friends we brought in and had just raved how good WT usually is. #LPStevenreviews...

After a couple of years, we finally made it back to the wild turkey Tavern. First weekend of March around 5:30 PM. The parking lot was not full, but the outside eating area had no tables available. We went inside and were relieved to see several tables free. We figured out why. It was about 40° in that place! We sat down and ordered a couple of drinks and decided to order our food to go because there was no way we could stay in there. Let’s be clear, I stand well over 6 foot and weigh about 245. I was shivering by the time I got out of there! I ordered the gator tail and mushrooms to go. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich tasted very good and had lots of chips with it and was reasonably priced. The potato chips are always good. The gator tail absolutely sucked! For $17 it had zero flavor and was the chewiest I had ever had. Last time we were there, the gator tail was great. The mushrooms were pretty good.

Had to bring the family to the Wild Turkey today 1/29/22 for the first time and they thoroughly enjoyed it from the food to the service and the atmosphere (they had to try the gator tail and they loved it)!! My kiddos were especially impressed with the mounted game on the walls too!! During the last few years of my Air Force career at the bombing range from 2008-14 before retiring, I came to the Wild Turkey fairly often especially when military units would come to train - and they always enjoyed it too!! It was especially nice to see the new addition of outside dining today; it was certainly worth the drive from Manatee County and as always Wild Turkey didn't disappoint!!!

Updated for January 2023: STILL the best tavern and tavern food in Highland County. Gator tail and cold drinks. You want to stop at this place. The Turkey is equal parts locals-only watering hole and a tourist draw in central Florida. I had the gator tail, which is exemplary, and a cheeseburger that rivals any fine-dining restaurant. Come for happy hour drink specials and gator, get a Grade A burger to sate your appetite, stay for live music out on the patio and cold drinks. Should be a regular (mandatory!) stop on the road to and from Avon Park.
