My first experience at WEC and the Yellow Pony. Christopher and Stephanie went out of their way to insure we enjoyed our experience. Great atmosphere and stellar craft cocktails. Treat yourself.

This is located in just off the lobby of Equestrian Hotel. Beautiful setting in the new World Equestrian Center just built in Ocala. The yellow pony has a nice horseshoe bar with tables spread around the bars perimeter. This is a very elegant location. We visited on a Sunday afternoon. It was my wife’s birthday and we wanted to visit the Equestrian Center so we were off. It was crowded when we arrived but were still able to find a table. The first thing we noticed was the noise. It wasn’t that the people in the pub were loud. I believe the acoustics were poor. We expected the prices to be higher than typical restaurant we go to and they certainly were. Items ranged from $13 to $30. I ordered a Guinness and a chicken quesadilla. My wife doesn’t drink so she only had water and a Country Cob salad. The food and drinks arrived quickly. The silverware was already at the table but there was nothing else but the menu booklet. My wife enjoyed her salad ($13) and my quesadilla ($16) came with 2 small plastic cup of sour cream and pickled onions. I didn’t quite get the pickled onions but they were tasty and my wife put them in her salad. I was a little disappointed with my quesadilla. The tortilla was cut into 4 pizzas slices. The chicken mix had a good flavor but was only in the small center of the slice about a 1/3 of the way and the rest of the quesadilla was a crispy tortilla with nothing in between. For $16 I certainly expected more. There was a great internet connection free for guests to use without the typical sign in. It so happens that an early October Fest was happening at the Grand Plaza. We ask our waitress if she could direct us but she had no idea. I thought that was a little strange as the hotel is part of the World Equestrian Center compound. We are so happy to have this facility near our home and hopefully what we experienced is just a learning curve for the new staff.

The hotel public spaces, arena and grounds are gorgeous. Signage on premises was helpful. Yellow Pony Pub was okay. Very very noisy atmosphere. Casual dress code. Themed decor. Comfortable seating. We were greeted and sat immediately for lunch, 1:30. Our server was friendly and frequently checked on us. Kitchen service was slow, took more than 20 minutes to receive our meals. Full bar service. My husband had a Maple Whiskey on the rocks which he said was flavorful and smooth. I like dry wines, so tried a Merlot which was bitter. It did not have good flavor. Wine glass was pressed glass. Silverware good weight. Cloth napkins, no tablecloth. Furniture was in good repair. Multiple TVs throughout the restaurant with different sports programming. The tables were evenly spaced, but I think somebody in a wheelchair would struggle. He ordered the Cowboy Burger with fries. He said the burger was cooked to his preference. I ordered the Fried Chicken sandwich with fries. It was not on a brioche bun. A little longer and it would have been over cooked. Crispy outside, juicy and tender inside. It needs a sauce with it, no honey dip. The french fries were over cooked and mostly unedible. We picked through them. Whomever is frying the food is over doing it. The food arrived on wooden cutting boards which I thought looked appealing. Temperature of the food was satisfactory. The pecan pie tasted good. Plenty of pecans. I think it needed chocolate fudge drizzle on the pie, not just on the plate and dark chocolate shavings instead of white chocolate. The crust was baked just right. Nice presentation on china dessert plate. We received the wrong bill. Price was not comparable to the food served. Immaculate restroom. Excellent job custodial services. There was no event, so...
