Order: Cappuccino and Pour Over (10 oz) Price: $8 Positives: Amazing coffee (I’ve almost never had a bad cup of coffee here), tons of seating, open reasonably late Negatives: They don’t really do food at all, that’s not really bad just something to be prepared for. tldr: This is one of my favorite coffee shops I’ve ever been to and BY FAR the best coffee shop in the Lynchburg area. With a wide variety of exceptional coffees, abundant seating, and an incredibly knowledgeable staff it’s easy to give them the best rating possible.
Thoughts: So we’ve all got those places that we’ve visited that somehow instantly impress upon us the perfection of their existence, right? Like that place you’ve visited plenty of times and no matter how often you go back it always seems to be exactly what you’re looking for. For me Third Wave Coffee is one of those perfect places. I can’t count how many times we’ve been there over the years but every single time I go it is a fantastic experience.
I know I listed what I ordered last time but I have gotten almost everything they offer at Third Wave. Their espresso drinks are always on fire and they always have a wide selection of beans for pour overs. Their pour overs are phenomenal, they hand make their own syrups, and they always have a small menu of seasonal drinks. Third Wave is consistently one of the best places to get coffee that I’ve ever been to.
And then, as if that wasn’t enough, they have a phenomenal space to sit and do work. If you’ve been following along with my reviews you know that one of my wife and I’s favorite places to do work is at a coffee shop. So when a place has not only abundance space, but space laid out very well, I’m always a huge fan. And Third Wave pulls this off tremendously well.
I could probably go on and on about Third Wave for way longer than is acceptable for a single review. So with that in mind, honestly just go to Third Wave if you like coffee. Don’t spend a lot of time thinking about, it just go. If you live in the area go a lot! But if you don’t, make a point to go whenever you’re nearby. You won’t regret it at all.
Well, you might regret it because then every other coffee shop you go to probably won’t feel as good, but you know at least you’ll have found one...

$ - A bit on the pricier side for Lynchburg/Forest area, but not terrible.
Atmosphere is nice, but can often get pretty busy and crowded. It used to be one of my favorite spots to relax and/or study in college, and it hasn't changed since, just my taste has changed. I would still recommend it for anyone new to Lynchburg looking for a good cafe. Very light and bright inside, and very open.
Recommendations/Menu:
I can especially recommend their mocha and hot chocolate - not too sweet, but flavorful (just the way I like it!)
They had these yummy crookies at one point (croissant cookies in the shape of a cinnamon roll) - not sure if they still have it.
Their menu has changed little by little over the years. I don't come here often anymore, so I don't really know what they have or don't have, however, they've always had good vegan/GF selection (at least 1 or 2 pastries at a time, and...
Read moreGreat place for a meeting. When I arrived the coffee was being roasted by a nice gentleman named Jacob. He explained how their process worked and seemed very passionate about what he was doing. It was wonderful to hear his love for what seemed to him to be the art of coffee. I didn't understand everything he said but I truly appreciated his love for coffee... And frankly, it smelled delicious 😍
I tried the London Fog latte - yummy. I definitely recommend getting it in the ceramic cup and spending a few minutes relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere. It was quiet enough to have a business conversation with enough movement and bustle to not be overheard by the people around you during said conversation.
