After wanting to try this place for a while now and reading all of the reviews (some accurate and some not) my girlfriend and I found ourselves in the vicinity on a Saturday afternoon (3/12) The place was busy as was expected but we found a table tucked in one of the side rooms. The waitress was prompt and friendly. The rest of the experience is a downward slide. For a place that touts "drive up and order a beer", we had to ask for a drink menu even though the main menu said to see the drink menu which was not on the table. We asked for a drink menu and quickly received one. Since when is Rolling Rock considered a craft or premium beer?? Regardless, we both skipped the alcohol and ordered some apps. My girlfriend ordered the mozzarella sticks and I opted for the spicy wings which were neither spicy nor were they wings. Maybe they were out of wings or just don't like to buy wings because of the price, but I received 6 chicken drumsticks in place of 6 wings which was not at all what I wanted but it had taken so long to get our apps that I knew the entrées were going to be right on top of the starters so I tried one. As said earlier, neither spicy nor wings and yes the entrées were right behind so I pushed the "wings" to the side. Now I had the "famous" french dip in front of me. Not the best and not the worst that I've ever had but you would think that a place that claims to have the "world famous" french dip would leave me happy and not choosing to write a review. The jus was pretty good, but didn't make up for the actual sandwich which was dry and lack luster. My adventurous girlfriend had the grilled cheese and let's face it, it's hard to jack up a grilled cheese so no negatives on that dish. All this being said I have always wanted to try Ed Walker's and I did so. I would reccomend this place to others but only on the premises of the fact that; you have to try a place that has been open for so long and has so much history, definitely don't order the "wings", and if you want a real french dip you should make one at home or go to a place that actually drops the bun in the jus before serving the sandwich (which is how it all started) If I find myself in the area again, I would say I most likely will try it again, but I will order something totally different than I would expect (I'm intrigued by the nachos and the stuffed poblanos) ** A side note, I did not complain about the "wings" and I should have but sometimes you just know that it will be a futile effort falling on deaf ears. This review in no way should reflect poorly on our server as she did very well and probably questioned bringing me my "wings" but like I said, they were fairly slammed...
Read moreFun old school drive-in in Ft Smith. Definitely a must try and was recommended to us by the locals. You can get takeout, eat outside, or they have a surprisingly large inside area to eat with many tables and booths. Inside you seat yourself, and a busy server comes by with menus. It's very "classic diner" service wise. The server did not make small talk, did not make recommendations, and seemed rushed every time we saw her. But she took our order and brought refills. But little things like only bringing 3 napkins for 4 people and not giving forks with the meal made us have to keep asking other servers for things. However, once we had our food and she left the ticket, we never saw her again to get refills, napkins, or order dessert. We ordered their "world famous" French Dip (add cheese) and the Hot Mama jalalpeno burger both with curly fries. My daughter got the Amy's All in One, which was a messy open face burger with fries and gravy on top. I added on a bowl of chicken and dumplings soup as an afterthought, and it ended up being my daughter's favorite! We also got a slice of raspberry cheesecake at the end which was tasty. The food was quite good. The beef sandwich and soup were our favorites. It was classic diner fries and greasy food but done well. They have homemade sauces (I got a side of Roquefort for my fries), daily blue plate specials (even though no price was posted), and homemade chili and soup. Desserts are also plentiful and around $3-4, which was pretty affordable. Lots of fun Elvis and Marilyn photos on the wall and cute photo ops inside and out. We would definitely stop by again and maybe give their 5lb burger a try (split with the...
Read moreThere was four of us total. 3 out of 4 enjoyed the taste of their food. I ordered no onions on my burger when I received my burger there was onions on it. I told the waiter there was onions on it. He said are you going to pick them off or do you want me to have them remake it, I said what, (I heard what he said i was just surprised that he even asked that) so he repeated himself and raised his voice at me and asked me again if I was going to pick the onions off myself or did I want him to have it remade. I told him yes I want it remade. Didn't even bother apologizing for it grabbed my plate had it remade brought it back out to me . My burger was pretty darn pink in the middle. (By this time I'm feeling really upset, I told him it was really pink he basically told me there's nothing he can do about it so I told himI would like a box so I can take it home and cook it some more myself and I would also like a discount for my food) he told me no that they don't do that so by that time my husband and two boys were all getting upset how I was getting treated, they said they were going to call the manager And the better Business bureau, then couple minutes later the waiter comes back with a new ticket and said he called the manager and the manager approved the discount. But all in all the experience was horrible he should have of never raised his voice at me and should have immediately offered to fix the onion situation and the nasty pink burger but he did not. I even told him no I felt like I was going to throw up seeing my burger that pink. Just awful..... Just the experience with our waiter makes us not want to ever go back...
