I had been looking all over to find a place that sells fry bread and Navajo Tacos that we could guarantee be opened when we arrived. When I saw there was a diner at this Visitor Center that offered just what I was looking for, we were sold. The taco was delicious. Just the right amount of toppings and the fry bread was so pillowy soft it was magical. The plain fry bread with powdered sugar was a great sweet treat really showcasing how versatile this one food can be. Don't miss out on a local treat here!!

With relatively few options in the nearby towns, the Painted Desert Diner at the Petrified Forest National Park Visitor Center complex is a great bet for lunch as you are visiting the park. The stars of their menu are the Navajo taco and the Indian Fry bread - well worth getting one of each! Also as a tip - when we got fountain drinks they told us to be sure and stop by the gift shop/cafe at the south end of the park for a free refill - an added value after several hours of hiking on the hot summer day!

The food at the diner was less than ideal, however I can get passed that considering we visited during what I would consider not their peak season. I had the Navajo taco and it can best be described as chili on a taco bowl. The staff was super friendly and helpful with bathroom issues. The gift shop is attached as well.

Waited 30 minutes for an order of French fries for a tired toddler. Asked them how much longer it would be, her answer was "I don't know". She didn't go check. My order was #90. They called 86, 87, 88, and 87 again. I told 87 they were called again and they said they got all of their food, and they went up to the counter and let them know. The worker argued that the French fries were theirs and they said No, they already got their fries, and to give them to another customer who ordered fries. The worker set the fries on the counter and walked away. We waited a few more minutes for the workers to come back and asked if we could just take them for our order and they said oh, those are yours. Horrible customer service. There were only 4 other families/customers and they all had their food and were eating. It took 30 minutes....FOR FRIES! Saw another customer having to ask where their food was as well. This was on Saturday, 6/28/25. Unacceptable customer...

The food makes it worth it! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars was the coffee was from a machine but I can’t expect too much out of a NP cafe. It’s nice that it is separate from the park and you don’t have to even visit the park to eat here. We got the breakfast burritos with vegan sausage. We had to wait a little longer because the sausage was frozen but it was definitely worth the wait! The burritos were massive and delicious and easily could have just split one between 2 people. There were also a variety of local (amazing) hot sauces to choose from (and other condiments). The coffee came from a machine but they also had a variety of hot teas which was nice if you don’t drink coffee. Breakfast is only served 8am-10am so you just have to make sure you are there during those hours if you want breakfast. The environment was very chill. There was a nice documentary playing on the tv about the Petrified forest that was cool to watch while we ate/waited...

First the food takes FOREVER!! Navajo taco they claim is so good is absolutely flavorless. Fry bead has no flavor at all. Chilli taste like dog food. The woman that took our order was extremely rude but the heavy set woman working the kitchen was worse and berated one of the younger (i think she is new) employees in front of all the customers and then when one customer tried to defend the young lady the heavy set lady was extremely rude. A gentleman asked where the restroom was and was told it's over there with no direction no point nothing my fiancee had to let the guy know where it was. The staff here needs some major attitude adjustments and probably some...
