I drove by this place atleast 5 times wanting to eat there. Finally went tonight looking forward to it... My mother jokes I'd eat rocks if you seasoned them right. Well I ordered surf and turf the steak was supposed to be medium for both, it was well instead. I subbed a salad for my vegetables and they brought me vegetables and no potato instead (salad was shredded lettuce with some concoction of dressing over it - I requested blue cheese). Waitress came to my table after the person who brought our meals and told me she would bring me mashed with gravy. Then later came to the table with a room temp baked potato and 2 little butter packets. My Bf had fish and chips with charred onions rings and severely overcooked French fries. The best part of the entire meal was the glass of water (even my pina colada was watery) and the appetizers. Very disappointing for a bill that came to over $100... They should include seasoning and a meat thermometer for that price at the very least. I'd give them - 5 stars if I could. Rocks sound pretty appetizing...
Read moreI've been to Irish Cottage Inn numerous times over the years when coming home to Vernon, NJ, from out if town. It's always been a great place to grab a pint and a bite. This post is to applaud Audrey, Shannon, Rachel, and the rest of the staff, especially the kitchen, who were able to turn on a dime to host our class reunion. We booked a separate venue months in advance to host our class' 20-year reunion and at 10 AM on the day of the event, we learned they didn't have power and couldn't host us. I called The Cottage at 11 AM, when they opened, to see if there was anything they could pull together and host us. After a few phone calls to work out some details on their and my end, we were booked for the back room with dinner (salad, pasta, chicken francese, and shepherd's pie), dessert (cheesecake and brownies) and beer/wine (domestic and house) included. The event went on without a hitch! Our class is collectively grateful for their fast acting...
Read moreAuthentic Irish cuisine in Sussex County??? Yess its true! This place is legit. Took my family of five there and we were all satisfied. We started with some French onion soup and a absolutely HUGE pretzel with homemade dipping sauces. The soups were good but the pretzel (pictured) was absolutely delicious and a must order. I loved the mustard and cheese sauces.
From the bacon burger and fries to the chicken pot pie and the Guinness beef stew, everything was very well done. We even had a couple of 50/50's which is a Guinness and Harp black and tan.
Several other menu selections will keep us coming back.
Service was great and there are plenty of TV'S to watch the game. Several cozy seating areas for casual dining. A nice sized bar completes...
