I want to start out by saying that everything we had at the garage was good, or better. Service was great! Everyone was super helpful, attentive, and accommodating. Sat at the bar and sparked up conversation with a few regulars and again, very pleasant.
The draft beer selection, though small, had some really great options! They had plenty of canned options to supplement those that couldn’t find something on draft though.
The food menu which is mostly bar food, sandwiches, and pizza had so many options that sounded good it made it hard to decide. Ultimately I came here because of the cheesesteak and was not going to waver at this point.
Buffalo wings for a starter. Crispy and cooked well, these are your standard Buffalo wings. Sauce was tangy with a touch of heat balanced out by the butter. The topping of scallions were a nice touch. To quote the great Joey Diaz, I’m typically in the camp of it’s “blue cheese with wings or go F your mother!” but was not overly impressed with the condiment. The ranch, on the other hand, was pretty spectacular and this is coming from someone that does not usually care for ranch dressing.
My wife got a Cuban sandwich and that was pretty dam good. Crispy bread from the press, the mojo pork was delicious and juicy and the addition of capicola ham gave it just a touch of spice.
Now on to this cheesesteak. For those that have said this is one of the better cheesesteaks in Maryland…hold my beer. The cheesesteak was good but it was just a touch above average, in my opinion. It was just a tad under seasoned for me and I needed to add a touch of salt. The bread, however, was soft and pillowy on the inside while having a distinct outer crust that provided that textural difference that is needed in such a juicy sandwich.
I’ll admit, my knock on the Garage’s cheesesteak is really more appropriately directed to the uninitiated cheesesteak fans more so than the actual execution of the sandwich. The cheesesteak was good! Just not “best of Maryland” level good.
Would I come back, absolutely. Would I get the cheesesteak again, sure! But with the other options on their menu, the Garage surely has something for everyone!
SIDE NOTE: The pizza looks amazing! Definitely trying...
Read moreWe've visited this place a few times, and our experiences have been quite different. This review combines our visits, but let me break it down by category for clarity.
Service: During our first visit, the service was excellent and friendly. However, on our second visit (when we brought a guest – not a great idea), we felt like we were inconveniencing the staff.
This negative service experience had a ripple effect on our pies. Our server didn't take the time to confirm our order, resulting in our ordering being wrong and our pies arriving with a 10-minute gap between them, and neither of them was what we had ordered.
We ordered one pepperoni and one Hawaiian.
One important thing to note is that they have their own unique take on a Hawaiian pie, and it's nothing like the traditional version; it's more like a BBQ pie. Unfortunately, we found this version to be disappointing. Since it's so different from the usual Hawaiian pie, we expected the server to check if that's what we wanted or at least give us a heads up. We didn't complain because we were dining with kids and had already waited a long time for our pies. But, honestly, it was not good at all.
Food: The pies are generally good, and we appreciate that the crust is perfectly charred yet still soft. However, the fries tend to be a bit overcooked.
Atmosphere: The ambiance here is relaxed and has a chill vibe, making it a pleasant place to unwind, and...
Read moreWhat an amazing find! We were visiting family in the area and realized they had been driving past The Garage for years without ever stopping in,big mistake, because this place is fantastic.
We ordered a mix of dishes, pizza, cheesesteak, Reuben, salt & vinegar fries, and buffalo wings, and every single item impressed. The pizza was hot, crisp, and loaded with flavorful toppings and perfectly melted cheese. The Reuben was moist, flavorful, and almost on par with Katz’s in NYC (which is saying something!). The fries were crispy, hot, and full of seasoning. The wings were another standout—crispy with a vibrant sauce and topped with fresh green onions, a nice touch that elevated the presentation and flavor.
The service was top-notch. Special thanks to Nick, our primary server, who was fantastic, but honestly the entire staff worked as one team to ensure we had a great dining experience. Everyone was friendly, efficient, and welcoming.
We’ll definitely be back on future family visits to Frederick. The Garage is worth discovering and one we’re glad we finally...
