We were looking to round out our Hill Country experience with one last winery and we decided on Fat Ass because it sounded like a fun place to visit.
First we went to the winery and they said that if we wanted to drive or walk over to the brewery that we could sample all of the same wines and also the beers, so we decided to do that.
The first thing we experienced was a line that took probably 10 minutes to order our tasting and flight. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it seemed like there were only a couple of workers and that they weren't prepared to be busy on a holiday weekend. After getting our drinks, they just didn't taste as good as other ones we'd had to this point. The beers were good but not great. This was the first place we'd visited where we didn't finish our drinks.
The atmosphere was great, though! I liked the garage theme and the live music. Even the merchandise was fun, they really did a good job with marketing the Fat Ass name and finding clever ways to work it in. Just sad that the drinks didn't live up to our...
Read moreThe Wine Garage was recommended by good friends. They know my love of cars and kept telling me we should go. We tried to stop by on Thursday afternoon, but they weren't open despite the what the website showed. We stopped back by on our way out of town Sunday afternoon. Got in line with other cars, waited for the gates to open only to be told it was a private event and we had to leave. We called twice, left one message. The person who took our second call was extremely rude. We decided to take our business elsewhere and become members at another winery. While there, we chatted with a few others who shared a similar experience with rude employees. I have yet to step foot into this place, but it isn't for the lack of trying. They obviously don't need or want...
Read moreWe don’t drink sweet or white wines so couldn’t do a tasting. I did buy a “glass” (plastic cup) of their Italian blend which was good (we are wine snobs and Italian LOL), but we can’t see the rest of the car collection without buying a “tasting” even though we were the ONLY people there on a Sunday afternoon! The girl that helped us (with the blue hair) was not friendly at all. She told my 62-year-old husband not to touch the car even though he wasn’t (he was showing me how the lights worked on the Riveria…he’s owned classic cars). I would have bought a bottle of wine to take home but because of the rudeness, drank my glass and left. Our first winery stop in the area was not...
