Turtle's Deli — Restaurant in Frederiksted

This review is for both Turtle's Deli and Smoke STX restaurant. I ate here while on vacation.

I got the 3 meat platter and tried the pulled pork, brisket, and smoked sausage. Everything was excellent and surprisingly, it was reasonably priced compared to BBQ joints in the NYC metropolitan area. I also had the Mac & cheese side which was very good. Most BBQ places the Mac & cheese is either runny/soupy, or too thick (consistency of plaster).

The potato salad was pretty good, but it really depends on how much you like mustard.

The only negatives are:

1. sauces are way too sweet for my taste. After trying both the regular and hot BBQ sauces I prefer the flavor of the meat on its own.
2. parking sucks. Unless you are very careful you will bottom out your car on the drainage channel running along the edge of the road!

I have already eaten here twice in 3 days and I can see eaten there at least once more...

Turtles Deli is a great spot for lunch and a beer. In addition, being right on the water makes it a great stop to take in the beautiful blue waters of st. Croix. They serve hot and cold sandwiches, which come with a choice of a bag of chips. The beers, in bottles, are reasonably priced ( a bargain compared to other places in town). We visited the restaurant twice. The first time we had the Raven, a hot sandwich. Excellent flavor, good bread. The 2nd time we had the Ultimate club and had it to go. The staff accommodated us by putting the mayo and tomato on the side. Very nice folks. This place can be busy at times so don't be surprised if there is a line. There is a big menu posted outside. After many years of enjoying one of the best deli’s on island, Turtles Deli is temporarily closing its doors for change of management.

Located on the shores of Frederiksted, on the west side of the island, this family-owned business has served the community some of the best sandwiches on island.

With previous owners retiring, the deli was purchased by new management, who will be offering much of the same menu that we’ve come to love, but with some new additions. Their initial focus will be to provide the same recipes and flavors and add a personal touch.

Turtle’s Deli provides a great location for customers to enjoy a quality sandwich, with a cold brew and literally eat on the beach. I can’t wait for them to re-open!!
