When my family asked for a family friendly restaurant we could meet at, immediately Antonia's came to mind. Prior visits had proved this establishment to be a sure bet for good food all while providing a great family environment... Unfortunately this was not the case tonight. We will not be dining here again.
Once we were seated, 20 mins later an employee came to take our drink requests assuring us our waitress would be over shortly to get our food orders. We then waited an additional 15 mins to have our drinks brought to us.
When we were eventually able to place our order, and receive our food, it came out sub par. The pasta was hard and overcooked with a scant amount of sauce and the bread was cold enough that the butter didn't even melt. Because the waitress never came back to our table to check on us, my husband got up to ask for a refill on our drinks and more sauce. They brought the sauce, but never the drinks. Still no one came back to our table after delivering the sauce so we tracked down staff down to get boxes and our checks. The checks we received had errors which we brought up to them to fix. We were finally able to leave after being there for 1.5 hrs. And, to add insult to injury, while we waited for our corrected checks, the choice of music definitely was not suitable for a family restaurant. The song list included lyrics that repeatedly said py and n*rs - not something I want my young niece (2yrs old) to be exposed to. Very...
Read moreSouthern end of Freeport, ME on Rt. 1 . . . Antonia's Restaurant decorated in holiday lights sets the tone for a festive dining experience that specializes in very good pizza.
Two rooms, one side more for families with kids, the other side more adult oriented with a bar, few high top tables, and several TVs for those who wish to see a few of the top football or baseball or basketball games, with sound off! Which I prefer, so as not to intrude on a pleasurable dining conversation.
One of my favorite pizza places, that also has a mixture of American cuisine dishes. You can enjoy several Italian dishes, or subs, and sandwiches, even chicken fingers for the kids. The salads offer healthy sides, our favorite is the Greek side salad. There's a reasonable beer selection, which I 'd like to see more Maine micro-brews. Likewise I would like a few more wine selections, but it's adequate. The cost of dinner with 2 people, that enjoy an alcoholic cocktail usually is $60. Usually no wait in the off season. Our servers are usually very good, and prompt, during off season and on off nights (Monday to Thursday). Rush times there's a bit of a wait. Hey that's Maine, we have a small population trying to serve the hundreds of restaurants, diners, movie theaters, food stores, etc....
Read moreFirst I want to start off by saying that I have what people have called a "discerning palate". There are more foods that I don't like than I do like. I have been to many restaurants where there've only been one or two things that I will eat there a second time. I am very fussy and I am also very hard to please when it comes to food. The sales lady in the quilt store recommended Antonia's so we gave them a try. I would eat at Antonia's every day of the week if I could! That food was amazing beyond what I've ever had before. I loved the Bruchetta and their Greek dipping sauce is out of this world and they sell it by the pint so I of course, bought a pint to go home with. We had calzones. That food was so incredibly pleasing to my palate that I wish I lived in this state so that I could be there every day. I highly recommend that if you're in that area that you go and enjoy that fine cuisine. That restaurant was almost 50 minutes from our hotel and I'm just sad that we can't go back there again today. We brought leftovers home and our refrigerator smells like them when I open it. I can't wait for lunch! In fact I may have my leftovers for breakfast they smell so good. As I said, I'm very hard to please and Antonia's was very...
