The Root Cafe — Restaurant in Friendsville

The two of us stopped here while passing through western MD. We found the atmosphere lovely but that’s where the good stuff stops. There was a sign outside that only a handful of items were available due to an “emergency.” We got 2 regular coffees, a breakfast wrap, a cookie, a bacon and eggs plate which included no toast. That cost us $38.91. We did the math when we got home and noticed a 20% tip was added to the bill without consent, on TAKE OUT. We checked the receipt after leaving and going home. That was our mistake.

We traveled with another couple consisting of 4 adults. Their bill was over $100. The lumberjack wrap was saturated with sour cream, masking the taste of the remaining ingredients. Scrambled eggs and bacon served with potatoes that weren’t fully cooked and hard.

Made my first of many visits to come today. Mike and family are good folks. They instantly extended a warm welcome and conversation came quite easy and natural. The staff is probably the best feature of this fine establishment. A close second is the awesome menu that I was presented with. After many suggestions, I went with the breakfast omelet. Ordered a turkey club. They were out of turkey ( hard to believe when EVERYTHING on your menu is turkey or chicken) They substituted chicken. A typical club is cut in 4 pieces, this came out as a sandwich just cut in half. Mayo covering the top oozing out. No wonder there was so much mayo gooped on. The sandwich was so dry.
