Best bakery we have found in Texas and, Honestly, anywhere. Everything is wonderful here. Here is that we have tried: -Macarons: beautiful. Light. Not dry. Taste very much like their advertised flavor. Not too sweet at all. Perfect level of sweetness. I usually don't care for macarons but I love them here. The whole family does. -cakes: we have tried the lemon berry, German chocolate, triple chocolate. All are wonderful. The chocolate is rich and intense but not overpowering. Cakes have a beautiful crumb, are moist but not soggy, layered so delicately and abundantly, and have balanced flavors. Fillings stay in place as your fork slices through the cake instead of ooze out everywhere. To me, that is the perfect amount of filling. Lastly, the frostings are to die for. I usually scrape frosting off of cake because it's too sweet, grainy, bland, etc. Not here. I'm like a kid eating spoonfuls of frosting! -Baguette: so fresh. Crunchy crust. Tender inside. Has substance but not heavy in any way. Soaks up soups or balsamic/olive oil well without disintegrating like grocery store Baguette. It can stand up to whatever you do with it but tastes lovely all alone too. The other night we just ate charcuterie with one of their baguettes for dinner. The kids loved it too. Easy and affordable dinner idea for the family. -pastries: everything made with the croissant pastry is transcendent. That pastry is perfectly crisp on the outside, then gives away to a moist buttery interior. It almost explodes with little shards of crunchy pastry falling about with every bite. I end up with croissant shards all over my face and lap, and i love it. Her pairings accompany the pastry perfectly. The almond croissant is the best baked thing I have ever eaten. Ever. Warm out of the oven, with a well-prepared coffee (also served there). Crunchy almond topping and mildly sweet almond filling inside , sprinkled with powdered sugar. My eyes roll back into my head. I have already told my husband that I will require an almond croissant on every birthday and anniversary. Forever. -Quiches: so creamy, perfectly seasoned, not over-stuffed with filling so you can't appreciate the egg (and trust me, you do want to appreciate these eggs). Lovely pie crust as well. Even my 5 year old gobbles down the quiche and said the "cookie part on the outside" was his favorite part. Best pie crust ever. Fed the quiche to our 7 month old baby for his first eggs. He also approved and ate the whole slice. I was sad there was none left for me. -also tried the banana bread, scones, biscuits as part of a breakfast sandwich. All are good.
Great atmosphere. Everyone is friendly. There are 2 high chairs for use. 2 very clean restrooms and the main restaurant area is very clean as well. Service is quick. You can walk in the door and have yourself eating within 5 min. If you have kids and/or want things warmed up, you'll be eating in 10 min. We used to take the family out for breakfast once a week as a treat for the kids. Not we just come here. It's more delicious than any other place around, and we can feed 2 adults, 2 kids and a baby an abundance of tasty treats with 2 coffee drinks and 2 orange juices for less than $60. That's pretty good in my opinion since we are big eaters.
Suggestions: there is a wooden shelf thing on the wall near the register. It has a few nick nacks on display. I think it would make more sense to put your yummy bread loaves and Baguette for sale there. Just seems like under-utilized space. The breakfast sandwich on the biscuit was a little dry. It needed a signature sauce or something. The biscuit was perfect and the eggs were also cooked perfectly, but it just needed another element. Just something to think about. A pitcher of water with little cups near the beverage menu might be useful when you are busy and some people just want a little water they can serve themselves. If you had some wipes on the shelves there the dirty dishes go, I would wipe down my table after I clear my dishes. All these are very minor things though. Keep up...
Read moreFirst time visit last week because I just wanted "Pastry" and hoped it would compare to Bread Winners in Uptown. Sadly, it did not. I ordered a pull apart cinnamon croissant, bacon cheese scone and mixed berry muffins. Out of all these seemingly delicious options, the bacon scone was the best. The pull apart croissant was hard and dry and resembled simple cinnamon sugar dusted ontop, every little pull apart piece was bone dry. The mixed berry was simply "mixed up" because it was missing the better serving of mixed berries in the muffin and the cake portion of the muffin was just that, "Cake" it was extremely dry , and the taste resembled a Dunkin Hines box cake. I was not impressed, and in my opinion, wasted $20. The other pastry options by way of croissant were weird looking splats of icing of some sort on top resembling an accidental baker's mess. I'm certain the quiche and the coffee would have been delicious along with those colorful macarons, but I'll never know since I'll probably never spend money buying pastries here in the...
Read moreI may have been cured of my guilt tipping this morning. I love this place, their pastries are a 10/10. What I struggle with is businesses that when I pay, say “this is going to ask you a few questions” and then the screen is pre-populated with three tipping options starting at 15%. Are you telling me that these employees that make more hourly than servers, deserve the same type of tip? They didn’t bring my food. They didn’t refill my drinks. They didn’t clear my table. They didn’t serve me for a hour. Many times they aren’t even friendly. The same tip? It makes no sense but I do it out of guilt. This morning my “minimum” 15% tip came out to $5. For putting pastries in a bag. I caved. I did it….. and then immediately regretted it. The girl helping me just walked away. Didn’t look at me. Didn’t smile. Didn’t say thank you. I’m tired of it. Today was a tipping point in my tipping guilt.
