I used to like this place because of the outdoor patio area in the summer. I'm a late nighter (I work late) so if I ever go there, it's usually close to closing time. I went there a couple weeks ago and had a horrible experience with the security staff. They made me pour out an almost full pitcher of beer because they were 'closed' (When in reality there was at least 15 more minutes til close. I understand the concept of 'bar time' but I could have been given a few more minutes to try to finish some of the pitcher). Mind you, I bought the pitcher before they called last call and this was all happening about 10 minutes later and they had already ushered my two friends out the door like cattle because they didn't have cups in their hand. The pitcher was meant to be shared with them. Long story short, they followed me to the bar so I can pay. They then told me I how I'll be definitely tipping 20% for the hassle. I paid the bartender and tipped her like I planned. She had done nothing wrong. While I waited for my bill, I tried to ask the security why they are so rude and why they can't sympathize with my situation at all. They then complained that I was keeping them from going home (again, the bar was still not closed..) and when I mentioned this, one of them told me to shut my mouth, pay and get out. I said I can talk if I want to, but don't worry, I won't be coming back and they all said "Good".
I was not being unruly. I was not drunk. The staff think they're thugs and when it's the 'end of the night', you are just an obstacle in their way to 'going home'. I'll continue to go to establishments that treat me like a...
Read moreJesse Oaks is a very cool place and absolutely worth a visit.
First - it's huge, with a giant property and multiple buildings making up the entire complex, it's really got quite a lot to offer.
It's really known as a volleyball bar, with huge indoor and outdoor beach courts, and countless leagues playing most nights. Before checking it out I sort of assumed you had to be really good at volleyball to join, but that's really not the case...Many leagues have lower divisions of people just learning or having fun. And then yes, there are divisions of people who are really really good. But you can pick your level, so that's cool.
Just hanging out and watching the games is also fun and just adds something different to see and do that's not available at most places you can go. So the whole atmosphere is just a pretty cool vibe with people playing and watching and others just taking it all in.
Just because it's got that uniqueness to it, I really appreciate it. There just aren't that many places I've come across in all my travels that are volleyball-centric, so I'm my opinion it's just great to have this place that's just different and unique in the area.
Aside from volleyball, they also have live music and other events, typically when the weather is nice.
Service is typical for a bar and the food is typical bar fare. Lots of fried offerings, burgers, and the like. But everything I've tried has been good for what it is.
Prices seem reasonable as well.
All-in-all. A very solid place, if you're in the area and looking for something a bit different, it's definitely worth...
Read moreMy team signed up for rec volleyball at this bar for winter months since there aren’t that many indoor rec volleyball leagues.
Pros: teams are overall nice and skill level is on par for rec.
Cons: password protected website during signups, inconsistent refs, applying arbitrary rules when they don’t apply, and not being allowed to set the serve.
I will explain the 2 major cons now: First, the password protection on the website. When inquiring about the league my team was not informed it would be password protected upon sign up or that we had to be on the contact list prior to the signups going live to have priority access. This was our first time playing here so we had to settle for Sunday or not play over the Winter season.
Secondly, I will explain the arbitrary rules here further. My team was disqualified from the playoffs the reason why was because we didn’t sign the roster or a waiver. Now, the reason for this was because they don’t want people switching out players for “ringers” during playoffs which makes sense, however, my team never swapped out players or subs, it was consistent and they even verified our ids on the court before playing in position’s night. This was the only time the ref checked our ID’s. The official rules stating the refs were supposed to do this week 1 to prevent this from happening and they chose not to do that. My team did offer to sign anything and provide all of our ID’s as proof, however, they said it would be unfair since they saw it as breaking...
