Cooks Hot Dog Drive In — Restaurant in Gaines Charter Township

My husband and I were craving these since yesterday. We drove all the way into Dutton, but are very sorry we did. As soon as we walked in the front door, she barked at us! She had just mopped the floor, the chairs were all on top of the tables, so we told her we would take them to go. Keep in mind this was 5:30pm, supper time. We wanted 9 chili dogs with everything but onions. We paid over $25.00 for 10 chili dogs that were supposed to have ketchup and mustard...The impatient gal behind the cash register made us feel so dumb because we did not understand the way she was explaining the 10 dogs for $20. "Chili Only" she kept saying...then reluctantly; she said we could have mustard and ketchup for a small price. I would have paid for the pickle, but she would not listen to us. We grabbed 3 bags of chips, drove all the way home, and were again disappointed. Why couldn't we order our dogs with everything but onions?? Also, there was no ketchup and mustard on them, she fixed them the way she wanted to, Chili Only. For the price we paid, we could have visited the quaint town of Rockford, avoiding her nasty remarks, and had our dogs the way we wanted them!! We will...

Really good casual hot dog stand. Food, service, and atmosphere are great. Prices have gotten unreasonable, though. Paid over $12 for two dogs and a root beer.

Update: I suspect the owner will remove or amend his response, so I'm adding this update before he does. He completely ignored the fact that I praised his business, and instead, took issue with my comment that the prices were unreasonable. It doesn't matter how the prices compare to other places or what other customers say. That is irrelevant to my statement. It just means the other places have unreasonably high prices, too. He chose to respond with an attempt to cause others to question my credibility, instead of thanking me for calling his business "really good" and "great." For that, Cooks has lost my business permanently. I've been there several times, and each time had a good experience. But now, any future experience has been ruined. I cannot, in good conscience, patronize a business whose owner will attack the customers who...

With a friend’s recommendation I came here for lunch and I’m glad I did. Cooks is a cool, old-fashioned sort of hot dog restaurant with a lot of great options. The root beer comes in ice cold mugs, and the hot dogs were prepared quick and fresh. I pigged out a bit and tried 4 different hot dogs: the chili dog, the Carolina slaw dog, the Venezuelan dog with potato sticks, and the Dutton general store dog with its old relish recipe. Everything was delicious, and it didn’t feel excessive in the end. The relish on the Dutton general store dog was wonderful, but I think the Carolina dog covered in coleslaw was probably my favorite.
