Eat here at your own risk. This place is a filthy health hazard. They take uneaten rolls from one customer's plate and save it to put on another customer's plate. Some have mold and are still served. They fry seafood products in the same fryer as other fried goods-this could kill someone with seafood allergies. Menu items like french toast are left on the counter for days before being warmed up in the microwave before serving to customers. Outdoor bird feeders are washed in the same sink that dishes for food preparation and serving are washed in. The sponges used for manual dishwashing (no commercial dishwasher on site) go weeks without being replaced and stink horribly. Customers are permitted to go behind the counter and help themselves, possibly spreading even more foodborne illness. The kitchen is filthy and the grill and microwaves are left uncleaned until they are warned of impending health inspections. Grime on almost every surface, including customer napkin holders-to the point that the object color is unrecognizable unless you scrape it off. Too many health violations to list here. Eating here is playing Russian roulette with your life. There are plenty of wonderful restaurants and establishments in Wellsboro-keep driving past this place and get a tasty meal prepared with quality ingredients that won't potentially kill you.
UPDATE: While in town to visit family, I had to stop in Baxter's to get some ice for the party. While the visible areas of the restaurant look a lot cleaner than they did in the past, the service hasn't improved.
Not knowing where the ice coolers are, I entered the restaurant. No one would acknowledge me to tell me where the ice was. I was left to wander, looking for someone communicable as I passed every member of the family that works there. Not one single person could manage a hello, or can I help you?. When I was so 'rude' to ask for assistance, I got blank stares and a lovely unfriendly , unintelligible grumble from Gayle's daughter, I presume.
What possesses people in the hospitality business to behave this way? They've run the family business into the gutter. Bad attitude, bad service, bad business. Wish they'd let go and sell this to someone that can restore the glory of the resort their ancestors built. Turn this into a nice place again instead of the Tioga county...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMiss Gayle & Miss Tiffany are THE BEST! There was nothing unclean, everything was amazing, we only came here for two days - but listen to me: you gotta be their brand!
YOU SHOULD COME HERE - If you want to visit a place to: take a step back in time to the 1950s, and into another culture (small town 'merica), and act like you are visiting "Grandma Gayle's Place" (you come to bless her, help out clear tables, get your own coffee, and sometimes carry food) - and you love to order three things for bfast / person lol - you gotta try the Kitchen Sink Omelette with extra veggies, Hunter's Special, and Liver & Onions (if that's your thing) - always ask for hot sauce & REAL local maple syrup. Every breakfast will be awesome and you'll have leftovers for the cabin for later! Love Miss Gayle (the friendly grandma-like owner) and Miss Tiffany (the amazing cook)
YOU SHOULD NOT COME HERE - If you enjoy metro/suburban restaurants/chains that clear your plates within 30seconds and refill your glasses when they are half empty right away, and you don't like helping the staff out (there's only two of them, you gotta help them if you come here yo)
Every breakfast was clean, amazing, and fantastic while we were here. Loved Frome Baxter! Check out the video of them on YouTube, FROME ACRES IS THE...
