We enjoy coming to Volcanic Sushi because they have provided us with good service and tasty food while also allowing us to enjoy the outdoor seating. They have a nice outdoor area, and the staff do a good job bringing appetizers early before your main course, as well as keeping on top of drinks. There are a lot of choices for sushi in the Gainesville area, but Volcanic Sushi does well to make a good name for itself. I recommend this place to others, and we have even enjoyed several dinners here with friends, and I'm sure we'll enjoy more to come! --------------------------- Update for 10 August 2022, Wednesday We went here with friends and family. It was a good place to share dinner with family from out of the area. A quiet and nice place for a weekday evening dinner. My only gripe was that the bugs outside were very persistent. But this is not fault of the restaurant, more so the season. Still, the food was delicious, and I most liked the John I sushi roll I had today. It was the tinfoil cooked sushi roll in the picture. Today I'd give the service a rating of 4 star, which is good but not great. But I'm sure it could have been other factors such as low staff. The service was friendly and accommodating, although a few cups ran dry, and the check took a while to come out as we sat outside and the bugs got worse. I would definitely still come back and enjoy more meals here indoor or outdoor. Enjoy!

If you have money to burn and a small appetite, I can wholeheartedly recommend Volcanic Sushi in the Haile Village. ❌ One (1) piece of eel sushi a la carte: $7. ❌ Shrimp tempura appetizer: $14. 👌 Takoyaki (Japanese snack consisting of ball of wheat flour batter cooked in a special pan and typically filled with octopus, pickled ginger, tempura scraps, and green onion): $10 👌 Half sized takeout soup container of Tom Kha Gai soup: $9 Order was accurate and ready upon my arrival. Eel sushi was not worth it. A roll, maybe, but not a singleton with a thin, lonely sliver of eel (nickel for scale), regardless of whether fresh rather than frozen. Shrimp tempura was outrageous, small sized and just like something straight from a convenient Asian market or even supermarket freezer case. Takoyaki had a few tiny morsels of octopus lurking within and was reasonably good, despite the mere four (4) sub ping pong ball sized pieces. Highlight was the soup, which struck me as made in house fresh and with pleasant mouth feel and a nice mixture of sweet and savory which meshed well and did not overpower either way. Other area Asian places have a more reasonable price for portion structure, and while hype is a thing which I totally get, I think the folks who live in the relatively pricey subdivisions surrounding Haile Village are a bit of a captive audience and being served as such.

First visit tonight for Thursday evening dinner with my husband. Greeted then seated almost immediately. Dylan was our really friendly chill waiter. Excellent customer service 11/10 👏 We ordered green tea, Sho Chiku Bai sake, miso soup, tuna tataki, Volcanic beef with brown rice, and Mori B. Soup was great, especially on a cool night (58 degrees) and we preferred outdoor seating. Tea was OK. The sake paired perfectly with my tataki and sashimi. My husband liked the tenderness of the Volcanic Beef and had additional ginger teriyaki sauce on the side. I was very happy that all my fish and veggies were fresh. Rice was made just right. We made a good choice on tonight's Japanese restaurant. Highly recommend this place especially for Gainesville sushi/sashimi lovers. Levels better with umami / authentic Japanese flavors than Ichiban Sushi and better customer service than the more popular Dragonfly. We would return here again for date night. Overall cost was $120 including 20% tip. Thanks for an excellent first experience đŸ”„

I used to go hear a lot but lately the service and food quality is going down. Long waits and the quality of food is hit and miss depends on who is back there. I made a reservations and supposed to have two guests with me, I call one hour 50 minutes earlier and ask to make sure to have a table , otherwise I make other arrange. I specifically mentioned it doesn't matter where it is as long as it is inside since it is going to be 41 degrees that night. The host, which I guess it was Zach, not 100% sure of his name, guaranteed that I am taken care of this and no worries. Driving to the restaurant 5 minutes before the time, while I was parking the same person calls me and tells me there is no space available, and he doesn't think a restaurant should be run this way, but there is nothing he can do and it is out of his hand! He said there is a table available outside and if you want you can have it. I told him, I am here and coming inside, please get me the manager. Manager came and said making a reservation at 6 PM, it is not a reservation and there is nothing she can do. In addition she mentioned that I have not confirmed my reservation! Which none of that doesn't make sense, if I called and made a reservation what do I need to confirm? I managed to find food somewhere else that night, but I can't count on this place anymore specially when their own staff believe "a restaurant shouldn't be run like this" Looking at answer to other reviewers, I realized in none of those, management really did truly apologize, but made all kind of excuses to prove they did nothing wrong and this is the customers that has been unreasonable. So, I don't except any results from my feedback either. I leave the judgment on...

Some of the rudest customer service I have ever experienced. The waitress was extremely rude in every aspect of her demeanor, even from the start. She was extremely condescending to me and my friends in her tone. We brushed past this and then they took more than 1 hour to get our food out. During this time, we saw people who came after us getting their food before us. When I complained about the wait time, they told me they were backed up (even though barely anyone was there) and that sushi was prioritized over regular entrees. I asked for a discount for wasting so much of our time with mediocre dishes, and they very harshly denied me. The manager said the waitress was "nice enough" to take the lunch upcharge off our tab, which did not happen. I was so sick of their deceptiveness and laziness that we simply left. This is a joke of a restaurant and there needs to be a serious evaluation made to the absolutely horrible staff. If someone could please reach out about this, that would be appreciated.

Edit: I should have expected this reply based on the others you gave people 😂. I got charged an extra $3 for my dish by the way. But at this point, I'm only angry about the rudeness. I work as a hotel receptionist, so I know it is difficult to deal with complaints sometimes, but please do not be rude to guests. I really did try to listen and I let it go and that could have been it. There was no need to re-explain rudely and lie to me. Do better. Thank you,...
