An Iowa institution at its best, this amazingly inexpensive, yet delicious restaurant chain is something to be admired.
The loose meat sandwiches are a regional food favorite; the original Maid-Rite tastes like a well done burger, but has the consistency of a sloppy joe, without the sauce. I didn't see the appeal until the first bite; it was like tiny, flavorful hamburgers in my mouth. The Cheese-Rite was even better, with a little mustard and chopped onions.
