Every town has a place that caters to the locals, offering great food at fantastic prices. In Galesburg this little gem is Taco Hideout. It's off the beaten path, almost hidden, but well worth the journey to eat there. It's not much to look at when you arrive and the inside is dated, yet it all adds to the charm of this local legend. You can eat like a king, every plate is under $7 and the portions are decent sized. They offer several varieties of tacos and enchiladas as well as appetizers like chips and beans, jalapeno poppers, and quesadillas. They are most known for their 5 for 5, five tacos or enchiladas for $5. To top it all off they also offer the elusive Bun Taco, although they call it a taco burger, for those unfamiliar its a taco served on hamburger buns rather than in a shell. You'll find the sodas served from the can with a cup of ice, and if you are in the mood for Cerveza they got you covered, including margaritas. This place gets busy, a testament to the food, service and history. Our server, Dawn H. was like the energizer bunny, just going and going. Dawn was super nice and friendly, definitely our favorite server. So if you are passing through the Galesburg area, do yourself a favor and drop on in, if you are lucky enough to be there while Dawn is working give her a double thumbs up for me.

It's one of those places you love and miss when you move away, and when I come back to town to visit, Tacohideout is a must. Vickie has seen me grow up since I was a baby( I'm 30), and now she's seen my daughter grow up. Vickie, Brandi, and Dawn are great they remember what we like, and they have the best margarita lime on the rocks! Nothing fancy, but you appreciate the place when you've grown up on it. But most importantly the prices have stayed the same. Even during covid, they've managed to keep prices low. If you visit, note that they only accept cash! However, there is an ATM...

My boyfriend and I ordered take out from from, he ordered the enchilada special and it tasted like both the tortilla and the beef were frozen and then just thawed and heated then served. They saved themselves a bit with mine because I ordered the enchiladas with pork instead of ground beef (which was not on the menu and was a specialty order) , the tortillas on mine were a completely different color, texture and taste than his. His were dry and pasty, while mine were...
