UPDATE 4/1/25: Spoke to the bakery manager who apologized, which I figured Robin did not represent their vibe by no means, but I'm glad they called. They offered me a gift card, but I declined. The reason I complained was the recognition of the lack of accountability. I would never want someone to lose a job for something like this, but it's definitely an opportunity for Robin to check her attitude at the door. We all have bad days, and we mess up....but the ability to hold yourself accountable requires a level of emorional intelligence that Robin unfortunately lacks. I hope Robin learns something from this tho. As I told the manager, I will steer clear of Robin in the future, and it'll be a while before I come back in. Overall, I'm happy they reached out.
I recently ordered a cake from here and it was really good. Unfortunately, I had the weirdest interaction with an employee, tho, which is why I gave it a 3 star. I had a 10 am pick up for a cake i preordrred, and when I got there I was told it wasn't ready....Robin seemed to be vying for an argument bc all she kept saying was "Well, it's not ready" even when I said alright yall could have called me, she said again "it's not ready" I stared ar her for a minute taking in her attitude and ultimately just ignored her. I had someone else pick up the cake for me, but here is the deal: I get things happen... but communication goes a long way. I go to Smithville a lot, and there are so many great shops, even this bakery, but I hope none of you have to deal with Robin. She seems to have accountability issues. I don't know if I will go back. I probably will, but not for a while, but if I see this lady, I'll probably walk right back...
Read moreWOULD GIVE A ZERO IF I COULD I went to Smithville Mayfest today with my kids despite the weather. I promised the kids if they were good that I would buy them cupcakes from Smithville bakery. My kids had them before and liked them. We went in and I ordered 2 chocolate and 2 vanilla. I noticed the vanilla looked different from what we bought before and they were next to Boston cream. Knowing my children won’t eat anything other than vanilla, I let the girl behind the counter know that the vanilla looked different. She assured me that it was vanilla. When I got home I gave my children their treats, and lo and behold the vanilla was Boston cream. They were very patient and excited to get their treats, and now disappointed. I immediately called the bakery to see if they would replace them. One was not touched but the other my daughter took a bite and threw away. If not for the fact that one, I questioned the flavor while in the bakery and two, they were expensive I would not have called. I also still had the receipt. The girl I spoke on the phone with then said that the employee who opened in the morning must have switched the signs and that it wasn’t her fault. Therefore, she would only replace the untouched cupcake. I asked to speak to the manager and she rudely said that the manager left for the day. Won’t be going back on principle. There are other bakeries with better customer service...
Read moreI’d like to start out by saying that breakfast there is good, however, I purchased a bear claw from the bakery part, and when I got home, it was hard as a rock. I trashed it. Also had asked if they had any more coconut custard pies which they used to make all the time. The employee was not very nice and had an attitude and said we don’t make them anymore and I was surprised. I told her it wasn’t long ago that we had one, and if they would be able to make it if we ordered and she said very firmly, no, we don’t make them anymore. This was for my 94 year old father-in-law who always said theirs was the best he ever had. We decided to call them the next time and ask on the phone if we could order one, we did, and lo and behold, they said, not a problem, just order a day in advance. Another issue we had was not long after that when we brought my father-in-law in for a donut. We purchased the donut and asked if he could sit at one of the tables to eat his donut because he couldn’t stand on his legs very long. The employee was extremely rude and said, no, they are for patrons who come in for breakfast. It was not busy at all, mind you…and how long would it take for someone to eat a doughnut? This man is a war veteran , 94 years old! What a disgrace! We decided we won’t be going...
