This IS where the locals eat! Old, young, black, white. Eat in or take out it's all on styrofoam. Coffee is great, doctor it if you must with the communal cannister of sugar and non-dairy creamer. And don't ask for decaf, it's hi-test only. There's a "little wait" on the hash browns because they make them fresh. Worth the tiny wait, they are little browned shoestrings wonderfully seasoned. Pancakes are fluffy and golden colored and very tasty. Great patty sausage. Tried a couple of unfamiliar items. Fried baloney was a thick slab crispy and dark on the outside, tender and pink on the inside - very good. Never heard of liver mush so had to try it. It's really a deep fried slab of pate but you'd never call it pate at Ball's! If you do like pate (I do) you'll like this. Eggs cooked to perfection. And all of this for $11 (including tax) for two of us! Self order and self bus the table. If you need a condiment borrow it off of another table or go to the cooler at the back and grab whatever you need. Staff was delightful. A seriously all-American and Christian establishment. Truly nothing fancy but we'd go...
Read moreWent in on Saturday. Was very busy. Called my order in and was told 10 mins Got there in about 17 mins due to traffic lights had to wait for 20 mins after that. Got home and food was messed up called and talked to the manager. She asked if I could come back and I said no my fiance just pulled out She took what was wrong with the order and said she'd replace to 2 plates that were messed up Go in today and they refused to honor what they said Saturday. I didn't ask for my whole order to be replaced just the 2 plates that were messed up I order almost $50 worth of food and my plates were about $14. I've gone to this place for YEARS and now they have lost my business all because they said they'd replace the entire plate instead of the items that were messed up... Walked away crying because I'm not a lier and they said because I couldn't bring them in that they weren't doing the whole plates. I'm legally blind I can't drive and my only way back had just left... totally...
Read moreY'all ever seen the little diner on TV where the food is delicious, everyone knows everyone and the old guys sit around gossiping? Now you can experience it for yourself. In Gastonia there are 2 Ball's Grills that I've visited and believe me this is the only one you want to go to. I work 3rd shift and I can have a juicy cheeseburger (and crinkle cut fries) and still get my other people breakfast. My son raves about the Livermush which I was told comes fresh from S.C and is very tasty. I've only had Cheeseburgers (so far) and they have been delicious both days. I went yesterday and then again this morning to see if yesterday's awesome food was just a happy accident but it was great again today. Don't believe me, go see...
