We came here twice to eat during our stay in West Virginia. I was on a motorcycle trip, and looking for some place that was different from the usual places. The set up inside is nice, they have a bar setting, but they also have a table setting. They can accommodate a large group setting, but .... well let's get into that later. My first visit was for about 6 of us. We all rode in, the parking lot is gravel so becareful. We were seated and our waitress came and addressed up quickly. She was really nice, like really personable. She sat at the table with us, and took time to speak to us about our orders.. I used to work as a waiter, and not many people do this. Anyhow she sold us on a bunch of food, lol those southern accents are so sweet they could sell this northern boy the world. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It came out as my lovely waitress brought it to me, the smells were rich, the bun was soft. The bbq sauce was dripping a bit... just lovely. I took a bite, and man this was good. The pulled pork had a nice taste too it, even a nice char taste ... like it was cooked on or with charcoal. Darn this is good. No complaints at all.
Next day we returned but this time with a bigger group, I was sold on this place.. I told our whole camp we gotta eat here. I called ahead Informed them about a team of 25 to 27 of us would be coming in at a certain time. They had the table ready, and we all sat. Here is where they dropped the ball, they only had 1 waitress waiting on us. This wasn't her fault ofcourse, but she took all our orders, and half our group got food and the other half .. nothing. 1 hour later still nothing. Our food took almost 1.5 hours to come out. This was just bad. Yes we did ask to speak to the manager who kind of did something, but by then it's too late. The manager should care more as soon as he sees such a large group. Get the waitress a little help to be sure everyone has gotten their food. The 1st experience made me want to come back, the 2nd experience turned me away. I'd go with a small group, but not with a big group. Small group being less than 10 people. More than 10 I would look somewhere else. Still we had a good time, and we tried to make the best of this mess...
Read moreWe hadn't heard of Grillbillies until we saw it while passing through. The owner was at the smoker when we pulled into the parking lot. He offered to show us the smoker and offered a sample of the ribs. We ordered a half rack of ribs, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, and pulled pork fries. The flavors were really good. The ribs were slightly dry but tender and tasted great. The mac & cheese is also good but needs a little salt. I added a sprinkle of salt and pepper and it was nearly perfect. The coleslaw is cut a little fine for my taste but has the right balance of tart and sweet and tastes fresh. The pulled pork fries were good but the fries themselves are a little disappointing. Good fries are crisp outside and soft and fluffy inside. These have no crisp exterior and are more like southern pan-fried potatoes than french fries. While talking food with the owner and our server, they offered a sample of their smoked wings, salsa, and garlic parmesan wing sauce. The wings are large, and have a delightful smoky flavor. They could stand another minute in the fryer to crisp up the skin but they are still great as they are. The salsa was fresh with just a little heat but that garlic parmesan was fantastic. Garlic parmesan is my go to wing sauce and this is probably the best I've had. It has plenty of flavor with a perfect balance of garlic and cheese with a hint of spice that hits on the back end. While everyone was very friendly, they may want to remember that diners can hear their personal conversations and might want to watch their language when customers are there. There are some personal discussions that can make strangers uncomfortable, as well. We sat outside and enjoyed a nice view of the river, in spite of a very determined yellow jacket trying to...
Read moreWent there for dinner last night. My husband and kids played a bit of pool before dinner arrived, which was a nice pastime to distract them from their hunger pangs. We got a few appetizers first since that's what the kids really wanted. The potato skins were really good. It may seem like a simple menu item, but there are only two or three places I know of that do them well, and this is one of them. The wings were also yum. We tried the pickleback ones. The sauce they're tossed in was an interesting combo of sweetness and pickle tartness...like I said, yum. My husband had the pit turkey sandwich. He devoured it. I had the jerk shrimp tacos, which were also good. My daughter had two orders of the mac and cheese because she liked it so much. It was a very tasty dinner. I highly...
