Not being from the area, and arriving too late for supper, we went for breakfast. After driving by the smoker a few times the day before with a wonderful aroma filling the air, we were expecting smoked meats at breakfast. We walked inside, and looking like out-of-towners, someone handed us a menu. We saw only breakfast "plate" options. We both had scrambled eggs, sausage patty, biscuit. I had grits, my hubby had sausage gravy. The sausage patty was not smoked as we expected.
The grits came in a puddle of fake buttery oil. Hubby said the sausage gravy was good. I went to the counter to get butter and jelly for my biscuit; the "butter" was not real butter. The biscuits were very tasty and fluffy. However, they arrived already slathered with the same buttery oil. 😕
While we were eating, I overheard someone order smoked sausage. Say what? I walked up to where there was a menu on the wall. It was different than the menu we were given (?).
The staff were friendly, smiling, and they worked well together; orders were made quickly. The restaurant looked clean. We did not use the restroom, so no comment. They're doing something right to be as busy as they are.
Wishing we'd come for supper instead. Maybe we came on an "off" day. We would try this place again, if we're nearby...for...
Read moreI've been eating here since the mid-90s when it was a podunk gas station/convenience store with a very small counter that served smoked meat at limited times of the day.
It has grown into a well-loved establishment with locals. The flavor and food is usually a hit with southerners. With travelers stopping for a quick bite, it is hit or miss. The smoked meats are delicious without sauce. Since I don't care for sauce, I can't comment on that. The fries that some commented are soggy, are very typical of all the BBQ restaurants I've been to around GA that aren't using frozen fries. The flavor of the brunswick stew is good, and the Pork Salads are quite large and tasty. The service has always been very good and fast considering the volume of customers.
I'm commenting today because a coworker brought some biscuits in for breakfast and reminded me how great they are. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet, because their biscuits are divine!
If you appreciate other local BBQ joints, you will enjoy lunch here. If you love good homemade biscuits, this is a MUST stop during...
Read moreBeen eating here for 20+ years on a consistent basis. It’s probably one of the only BBQ places open on a Monday. Their food is really good.
My problem is that they charge for water and they skimp you on the food while raising prices. I hate going to eat somewhere i have eaten before expecting to get my usual meal but instead getting a more expensive price and less to eat.
Almost 13 dollars for a Beef BBQ sandwich plate with water. I understand the time we live in. Everything cost more. I don’t have a problem paying more but i do expect the same amount food I always get. Eating a BBQ sandwich that is mostly bread now and paying so much for it is unacceptable.
They can’t be hurting too much considering they built a drive thru. If you’re going to raise prices don’t short me on the food and charge me over a dollar for a cup of water. This is the same reason I quit going to Fred’s BBQ down the street.
Wallace BBQ isn’t too far down the street. Better prices, they don’t charge for water and you get plenty to eat. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday but you can’t...
