While heading back to FL from NC/Helen, GA, we wanted to find one more local, off the beaten path spot to try out. Rabbittown Cafe was on our route home and looked like they would have some good, country style cooking. The restaurant is located in a plaza with a large rabbit statue facing the road. I was curious about this statue and did some Googling. Apparently, Rabbittown used to be its own little sparsely populated hamlet before Gainesville absorbed it. Gainesville has a life size statue of a chicken since they are known for poultry, so the area formerly known as Rabbittown erected a much larger than life rabbit statue as a homage to their history (rabbit was a common meal of the residents during the time period.) I thought this was an interesting story behind the area.
Anyway, back to the restaurant! The place is set up cafeteria style. They had several lunch entree options and multiple sides to choose from. I opted to try the chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and white gravy and mac and cheese. You also get a choice of bread so I chose a biscuit. My boyfriend got Salisbury steak as his entree and chose the same sides as I did. The staff members were friendly and the line moved pretty quickly. The biscuits here are huge and tasty. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the white gravy had a yummy, peppery taste. The mac and cheese was also good. The chicken tenders were a bit bland, but juicy and had a nice crunch. My boyfriend enjoyed his Salisbury steak as well. They also open early to serve breakfast and those options sounded tasty as well. The meals are very inexpensive also. We paid around $15 for two meals including tip and that also included our beverages. I even ended up with leftovers since the portions are large.
If you're in the area, Rabbittown Cafe is definitely worth stopping in to for...
Read moreTitle: Disappointing Experience at Rabbit Town Cafe
Review: I recently visited Rabbittown Cafe in Gainesville and I must say that the overall experience was extremely disappointing. It saddens me to say that the quality of this establishment has drastically declined over time.
Firstly, the food at Rabbit Town Cafe has never been particularly flavorful, but during my recent visit, it reached a new low. In order to salvage any taste, I found myself having to add an excessive amount of salt and pepper to my dish. This not only indicates a lack of seasoning in the preparation but also suggests a decline in the attention to detail that was once expected from this establishment.
Furthermore, the service at Rabbit Town Cafe was simply horrible. The staff seemed indifferent and unattentive, showing no genuine interest in ensuring a pleasant dining experience. This lackluster service only added to the overall disappointment of the visit.
Considering the poor quality of both the food and the service, I can confidently say that I will never be returning to Rabbit Town Cafe. The experience left me with no desire to give it a second chance. I would rate my recent visit a mere 1 out of 10.
I sincerely hope that the management of Rabbit Town Cafe takes note of these concerns and takes the necessary steps to improve the overall quality and...
Read moreRabbittown Cafe is almost always "hopping," with folks moving through their delicious and incredible buffet line. (Every time I went in, the line was to the door.)
WAIT!! Don't turn around and leave!!! The line moves very quickly!!
I want it ALL, my mind shouts! Then, I feel let down as I must choose! (It like our family reunions, where no prouder ladies each serve their very best. Days of preparing go in for this one amazing sit down.) My husband went online to see which day meatloaf was served! Me? I just wanted to be surprised! I always save room for banna pudding or pecan pie. There are at least 5 deserts to choose from. By the way, they don't pinch pennies on ANY servings! I have to say," That's more than enough for me!" I hear back, "That's great! We want you full up when you leave here!" I take my leftovers home. To me, the sweet tea tastes just like my grannies. Not tons of sugar but sweet like. Also, we all know you have to make it the night before for it to taste perfect! (A sweet young lady came by for refilling your cup.) There were 3 rooms to choose where to sit at. All were full, but folks were constantly changing among the booths and tables. It's one of my most favorite places to eat!!! I'm sure it'll be yours too. Hurry, get on...
