Im not exactly what you would call a reviewer....but as I sit here getting ready to hit the twisties, I have to ask myself, can I simply go about my day, racing various locals and non locals alike defying the laws of physics with the high risk and such...bla bla you know the rest and NOT leave review? This was hands down the BEST breakfast place I've ever eaten at. We showed up around 930am on a Tuesday and was seated immediately. As we waited a few mins for our other friend, several staff approached us ensuring we had everything we needed. All 3 of us ordered the brisket hash, added side of gravy and I added one pancake....altho I'm really more of a french toast kinda girl...oh and I asked for light onions on mine vs whatever amount comes automatically. They brought out the food as it was completed. We all scrambled our eggs and they were literally cooked perfect....not dry but not runny...hard to do, Idc who you are...eggs were placed over EXTREMELY tender CHUNKS of the most delicious flavor brisket I'VE EVER HAD!! The onions were sliced thin which I loved and grilled all over a bed of hasbrowns. So let me tell you about these hasbrowns. They were hot, crispy, flavorful, and not to sound like the limited vocabulary type, the BEST hashbrowns...I'VE EVER HAD!! I'm not a biscuit or really bread type but I opted for the biscuit anyways and all things holy and right, Jesus took that wheel. Even the gravy was made just like your meemaw used to make it. Flour based with cream. Perfection 🥰. Lastly, I always order a sweet even though I rarely am able to eat it, but again, that pancake was tremendous. Even the edges were slightly crispy...we try to hit up dragon and blood few times a year and I assure you...even if we stay at deals gap, we will ALWAYS make 'The Sawmill Place' our coveted new tradition. Oh, if by chance you are not able to sit immediately as 1.3k 4.8 star reviews actually means lots of others also find this place fantastic....click on the bad reviews and check out the owners response. They are just as fantastic as everything else about this place was. Based on those responses alone, we wanted to come. It says alot when the owner of a food establishment has that kinda swag, then matched with food delicious perfection....priceless. Just like crazy fanatic female sportbike racers who live for all things 2 wheels, this place too is a...
Read moreI cannot underestimate how amazing Sawmill is. Been around and back at least 8 to 10 different times, a couple with family members. It is walking distance from the apartments I'm currently living at which is great for me since Blairsville (outside of directly downtown) doesn't have a lot of places for walking.
Let's get service out of the way first. Service is top notch with all the ladies here. They do their best to make sure people are accounted for and have multiple servers check up on everyone. It keeps people engaged and allows for multiple conversations if you choose to have some small chatter. The only issue there ever is with service is waiting for 15 - 30 minutes total for seating and food, but given how busy it always is, that should be expected.
Next, the atmosphere. The amount of homely country decor, the store next by selling locally made foods & ingredients, the settling and warm lights that are about, the nice shade for waiting. I can go on and on about how when you wait or want something, the atmosphere takes you away from any trouble you could have in Sawmill. Not to mention hearing all the conversations people have or listening in to the sounds of food being made, dishes clanging, etc. brings an atmosphere that would really only remind you of family gatherings.
And lastly the food, oh the food! If I was able to rate 6 stars, this would be getting the 6 star mark. Breakfast is always light and fantastic, lunch is always a load and keeps me full for takeout dinner too, the brunch brings the light feeling of breakfast with the fullness of lunch, and then the few times they have dinner is when they show top notch dishes never usually seen. There's so many dishes on here too from Banana Nut French Toast, the amazing Biscuit & Gravy, Brisket meals, and for picky eaters, a nice meat and side selection to choose from. There's just a cavalry of different options without additives, preserves, and with farm fresh ingredients that you won't find almost anywhere.
All in all, Sawmill is a fantastic group of folks that caters to all kinds of folks with this extremely family & home oriented atmosphere with some of the BEST food you could have. I cannot recommend Sawmill enough to people who...
Read moreI stopped there on a Wednesday early afternoon. I was a single diner. They were fairly busy, there was about 6-8 people waiting to be seated. I was told by the young dark haired hostess that the wait would be 10 to 15 mins. No problem. She asked if I was willing to sit at the counter they have, I said I was. She said “ok, I’ll put you down as first available”. So I took a seat on the bench and waited. The people that were waiting prior to my arrival were eventually seated. After being there for about 15 mins, two older couples came in separately. They both sat down on the bench and waited along with me. Approximately 12-15 mins later, the same hostess sat one of the couples at a 4 top. Then a few mins later, she sat the other couple at another 4 top. Now I have been there for at least 30 mins and she sat both couples and I’m still waiting. I walked up to the hostess stand and asked why she had sat both couples before she sat me, to which she responded, I was waiting for a smaller table to seat you at. Now mind you, I didn’t see a table in the place that was smaller than a 4 top(I could be wrong about that I admit). Now from the hostess stand, I could see a couple of empty chairs at the counter. I handed her my “beeper” and walked out. Then decided that I wished to speak to a manager about the situation. As I opened the door, the hostess was speaking to a young blonde waitress and they were laughing, not knowing I was standing there, the blonde waitress said, “oops” and laughed until she saw me. So I asked to speak to a manager. I explained what had happened, she was understanding but then another female employee came up behind her and said, “but they were sat at a 4 top”. So what? I was there first, by a lot. So as a single diner I can’t be sat at a 4 top but 2 people can be? That makes no sense. I realize that that a business isn’t going to sit a single diner at a 6 or 8 top, but a 4 top when there isn’t really any other options. What exactly does “first available mean to this business? So I left again without eating so I can’t review the food. But the service leaves much to be desired, especially...
