Let me start by saying, this is honestly the first review I have ever written in my life. My kids have become Stranger Things fans so on a trip across the US (from Texas) we decided to do a Stranger Things tour. We were so excited to see this restaurant and eat here. We showed up today, Tuesday around 2:30pm. We took a pic before coming in with excitement which vanished upon entering the restaurant. We walked in without being greeted. Stood by the front door for a minute and noticed the sign that said seat yourself, which we did. We sat in a booth and began looking around and could see the waitress and other staff members had acknowledged our presence. After sitting for a few minutes, another group entered and sat at the booth behind us. We looked around the restaurant, trying to find a menu. There was one special written on a board along with desserts but that was it. After about 10 minutes the waitress finally approached us and I kindly greeted her with a “hi there” as she approached because I knew she looked overwhelmed. She walked up to the table and asked what we would like. I kindly asked if she had a menu. She rolled her eyes and turned towards the front, grabbed 2 menus and plopped them on the table. She then went to the table that came in after us and took their order, brought them their drinks, walked around the restaurant doing odd jobs, served other people their food, fulfilled a to go order, cleaned up a tiny spill on the table behind us, went to the front and checked a guy out, took a guys order at the front that just decided to order all while we sat there, patiently, with 3 hungry kids just wanting a waffle and a memorable experience. We waited all day to eat here and we were so excited but after 20 or more minutes, we were done. Not a drink order or food order even considered at this point in our direction. I do want to add that I truly appreciate the kitchen staff. Someone from the kitchen was out in the seating area when we arrived and kept looking our direction. As the waitress was taking the other table’s order, he came out and was hesitant to ask the waitress but interrupted her and asked if she had our order (knowing we had been there before them). She stated, “they weren’t ready.” No, we waited on a menu for 10 minutes so at the time we were not ready but then she never came back to us or acknowledged us. It was the most disappointing part of the trip. I would never go back nor recommend it to any Stranger Things fan looking for a fun adventure. Our kids were seriously disappointed and really looking forward...
Read morePurchased 2 slices of apple pie that had to go straight into the trash. After a long wait, I got home and was disappointed to find this concealed, cold, disappointing pie. I expect apple pie to have a golden crust and a filling that moves. What I received looks like it came straight from the box to the fridge. The crust on top was WHITE.
Although the owner responded on Yelp that the pie wasn’t raw and harped on about how I received 2 mini scoops of $.25 ice-cream as a courtesy (although I was completely unaware that this was a courtesy at all and would’ve been happy to pay for it) the most important part of this experience that seems missed by the ownership is that a customer is expressing dissatisfaction in speed of service and quality of food. Listen to your customers who express concerns. They’re usually expressing what you’re missing or what other patrons overlook.
The owner is very rude. Instead of taking valuable feedback from patrons, she nastily responds, and even goes back and forth. Wow. There’s a lot more I could’ve actually addressed and included, how the cashier who fixed my pie didn’t wash her hands when making the ice cream, how the overall place looks dingy, how the other young lady at the counter literally yelled back to a waiting family that hadn’t yet been served “I’m sorry y’all!”, how no one is washing their hands when changing activities in the grill areas. There was A LOT I observed through the window while waiting and waiting for this pie. Listen to the complaints as well as the praise. Sew those busted seats up, wash the windows, be kind when you get feedback and maybe look into it when it’s voiced instead of getting defensive. Care about ALL customers, not just the regulars who overlook because they like you. ALL folks deserve the best if they’re spending money and they deserve to get homemade if that’s what’s advertised. Stop “internet thugging” criticism and address the root issues.
*Response update: No need to make up anything ma’am. These were true observations that I made but didn’t include because I was trying to be kind. You are unprofessional and unfit. Your responses to ANY critical reviews prove it. I reviewed because you need to hear it, listen and improve. Something is off with customer service here and it is obvious where the...
Read moreThe last time I was here a few years ago, Hubby and I sincerely enjoyed it. The food was good and service was friendly. Today it was another story.
Pros: very close to Sweet Water State Park and used in the filming of stranger things.
Cons: Food - I had the catfish. I asked what size they were and our server said they were small patty sized (she gestured with her hands). They were huge. I ordered a larger 2 piece meal on her recommendation and it was way too much for me. I hate food waste and catfish isn't something that carries well. The food was bland. My catfish was WAY over breaded. We ordered fried green tomatoes and they brought a ranch packet on top of a bowl... come on. Just a smidge of effort on presentation would've been nice. Nothing fancy, but maybe don't put a ranch packet you've touched with your hands in a bowl I'm going to have to put it in myself. Everything was crazy greasy and very under seasoned. Tiffany, what happened?! I left feeling bleh and irritated that I spent 50 bucks on lunch for my family that was barely eatable. The desserts were dry and akin to the rest of our food. Our server informed us that they didn't have anything homemade unlike they advertise and Hubby was bummed. I was so disappointed since this was all very different from our prior experience here.
Service - I believe our server's name was Megan. The service in general was very slow. Not a single drink refill and we had to ask multiple times for items we needed.
Ambiance - Much like the quality of the food, the cleanliness of this place has tanked. I don't remember it being an issue before but this time the whole restaurant was gross. The floors were sticky, all around the white baseboards are black with caked grime and dirt. The restrooms were so bad I had to take our daughter to use our portable potty in the car. There was no way I was going to let her use the bathroom in there. The whole place needs a loving scrub down to the baseboards. I didn’t see any booster seats or high chairs for my daughter and the staff didn’t offer. That’s not a huge issue, but cleanliness is.
Overall, it breaks my heart to write this, but I sincerely hope that it helps inspire some change and restoration to the Tiffany's Kitchen that we remember fondly from a...
