WAY OVERRATED!!! Updating my review from 3 years ago - I came back with my bf, staff just kept passing us without saying a word, no "someone will be right with you" or nothing. After a few mins we met the hostest, who was rude, we asked for a booth, she said they didnt have any and didnt say another word, no offer to let us wait for one etc. We told her we would take another table and she tried to sit us at another table we really couldnt access bc another couple was sitting pushed out on the same side. We asked to for another table and she said okay. We watched as other people entered being ignored and not being greeted also. We finally got a booth, took 10 mins for a drink order. The free bread and butter was good, the pretzel was delish and we both ordered the hanger steak. The food took more than an hour and it was mid (it took so long my bf actually asked if we should cancel our food and leave), also very overpriced. Risotto was amazing and that was about it. Steak was chewy and under seasoned, same for the potatoes, tasted like nothing. First tip I would give would to be to use seasoning on your food. Our server actually told us they dont season the steak as the sauce should be the seasoning. Server was great, but overall service was slow and the host was rude. Also, to be at a decent dining establishment, the host should not have her pink bra showing. Gave them a second chance def not coming back.
My review from 3 years ago -I will not be returning. The service was horrible and the food was okay, however very overpriced. We waited more than 10 minutes for our drinks and over an hour for our food. We paid $10 for a caesar salad that was fast food quality. I ordered my steak medium and mashed potatoes and the steak came out rare, and my potatoes came out with Chipotle in them. I returned my steak and it came back out less than 3 minutes later still rare in some spots. The server never even came back to inquire if the food was correct. The drinks were the only good part of our hour and a...
Read moreWe had heard great things about this establishment and decided to visit for a birthday. We arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation, there was no one at the front of the restaurant to greet us. Finally about 5 minutes later a hostess came up and asked if we had a reservation and seated us, not entirely welcoming or friendly. We then sat at a table for 10 minutes before anyone came to our table. Another server from a different section saw us ready to get up and leave and came over and told us our server was busy and she'd get us drinks. Her name was Melanie and she was very friendly and perhaps if we would have been received into the restaurant in the first place with that type of friendliness things wouldn't have gone downhill. Melanie brought our drinks to us and we then waited again too long for our server to come to our table. Being a former server I would have expected her approach to be apologetic and helpful, but it was more "are you ready to order" without a "my name is X, the specials are X, I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting" and then busting A** to make us feel welcome. The food came and it was decent, but the lamb ordered MR was well and the food seemed that it sat under lights for a while. We spent $350.00 for 4 people to be served Waffle House style. I expected more for a boutique bougie establishment. We won't be back, that was our first and last visit. Props to Melanie though for her wonderful attitude and trying to help us. Now I'm reconciling Quicken and have my reciept which we signed for 341.44 and the credit card charge came through as 347.44. There is no way the written 1 can be...
Read moreMy wife and I are idiots. It only us 13 years to finally come to a restaurant that's maybe 10 minutes from our house. A place I've driven or ridden by God only knows how many times.
We're idiots because who knows how many times we've driven to places, much further away, where the food wasn't nearly as good, the service was subpar, and the space and environment was fabricated and canned.
The Union Hill Grill is everything a true neighborhood restaurant should be, and I say neighborhood because it truly is - to get anything near to this, you have to go to Canton, Alpharetta, or Woodstock. But here, nestled in an unassuming little strip mall, on equally unassuming Sugar Pike Rd., sits a restaurant that has everything you'd expect in a place that has 5-star ratings galore, and has thrived in what would seem to be a difficult place to make it as a restaurant - it has great service, an authentic, genuine, cozy atmosphere, and food that is absolutely unbelievable.
We split the Nicoise salad (almost a meal by itself), had the Shrimp & Grits, the braised short rib, and creme brulee for dessert. Every. Single. Thing was amazing. The service - amazing. The food - amazing. The atmosphere - amazing. And yes, even the prices were very competitive compared to a dinner of equal caliber. Actually, you could go 20 minutes in any direction from The Union Hill Grill, spend far more, and get far less.
Really glad we finally found our neighborhood restaurant - and guaranteed, it won't take us 13 years to get back for our...
