It's always such a bummer to go into a place that you have been raving about to all your friends, and have to deal with a cashier that is obviously miserable to be there , or miserable that she has to talk to customers. I don't want to waste my time or your time texting our conversation (or lack thereof) but it's wild that she was able to act that way without feeling embarrassed. She did not say any of the bare minimum service industry statements or comments like "thank you" or "have a good day" , nor did she smile or show any indication that she is glad to be there . I know it's partially a generational thing because subconsciously I'm sure she thinks I owe her something but when you walk into a business that is literally there to serve the customer and give them a good experience, and responds with a blank look as you say "hello how are you". , you know it's time to work somewhere else. I gave her a tip because you are basically forced to when you slide the card and they're looking at you like you have their rent money ransom, but I wouldn't have had I know it was going to be a poor experience. . But I got out my credit card to pay for a $60 order, swipe, and mention that it gave me some kind of error and her response was "We don't take American Express" and then points to the visa and MasterCard emblem on the tablet. When my food is ready she walks up to me and holds out her arm and hands it to me without saying a word and because I am a respectable human, I say "thank you very much" and she just turns around and walked back to her station. It's a privilege that any of us are blessed to work. There is no reason to be acting that way when you are in the service industry. I can understand if this was someone at the DMV but this is someone that is working literally in the service industry where you are supposed to at bare minimum smile and have decent manners. I'm sure me and the guys will order from here again but it will not be as often and I will certainly not go inside or send anybody...
Read moreI used to go here ALL the time & loved their food. Referred MANY friends & co-workers too. I absolutely love the friendly waitress Sherry. She's a talker & super nice, but some of the other employees are very rude! I stopped going there because they became salsa natzis when it comes to take out... Even if you say you'll pay EXTRA for more salsa. They used to let me buy large (pint) containers of salsa with a big bag of chips, but then they got really stingy with it, and wouldn't sell it that way. If you dine in, you can have as much salsa as you want (go figure) but the dining area is TINY and sometimes crowded. Because of this, I ordered take out more than eating in house. I also picked up food for co-workers as well, when working late. Employees would hassle me EVERY time about wanting more than a couple of TINY containers of salsa, even with orders for multiple people. One time they told me they would give me extra, but then they put a couple containers in a paper bag & STAPLED it shut. I guess they were hoping I wouldn't check. When I opened the bag & asked for more, they were really huffy & rude. I just don't get it! When a customer says they WILL PAY EXTRA & they don't care what the price is... Sell them the damn salsa!! Seriously. I called to speak with a manager a couple of different times about this, but they would always say they were busy. Sadly, I finally just stopped going there, and so did many of my co-workers who had the same issues. I'm simply not going to eat Mexican food without...
Read moreNew Mexican Grill is my “Go To” Mexican food restaurant. The dishes are authentic and vibrant with flavor and the portions are phenomenal. Every entree that I’ve tried has been added to my favorites list!
Each dish excites my palate and satisfies my hunger. I continue to try something new but so love my regular dishes that sometimes I order a dish to dine-in and take a second one “To Go.”
Always greeted with a smile and friendly conversation, the entire team is more like family than restaurant staff. It’s a must try location for everyone. If you are local to the area, it is sure to be added to your regular dining rotation.
Over the years, I have brought over a dozen family and friends to the New Mexican Grill and rave about it in any conversation about dining, especially Mexican food. Out-of-town friends mention it as one of their favorite restaurants while visiting Arizona.
During the height of COVID, they followed protocols to ensure patron and employee safety. My family and I frequented New Mexican Grill nearly every week during this time. This was for several reasons: I needed the comfort that the entrees and seeing the staff brought me, and I wanted to do my part to ensure this local establishment stayed open. I’m grateful they stayed busy during this time.
If I could rate it 5 stars with a bonus star, I most...
