Red Pig Inn — Restaurant in Glandorf Township

Until recently we have enjoyed this place. It has been our go to location when we are in Ottawa. They have a good menu with wraps, sandwiches, and dinners, On our recent visit, the place was clean and not very busy. Our waitress, who claimed she was the manager was terrible. It took forever to get drinks or refills. She appeared to be the only waitress on staff because she was waiting on every table, yet there were others who could have helped her but she wouldn't let them. Part of our was incorrect so it needed to be sent back. What we got back was correct but our side items had been sitting in the kitchen so were either cold or stale. I ordered the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. It was boring with no flavor and not heat at all. My friend ordered a plain bacon cheeseburger and it came with everything. Had I known mine was going to be so tasteless I would have asked for his toppings that he didn't want. The other person with us ordered a sandwich which came with the wrong sides. He never did receive his coleslaw. After not checking on us for a while she then brought the check and stood there until we paid and left a tip. Needless to say, it was a small tip. We’ve been coming here for years and usually enjoy it, but today was really disappointing. We arrived right when they opened at 11 a.m. I took my son to the men’s restroom and noticed there was no soap. I mentioned it to our waitress, and she said she’d take care of it — but an hour later, still no soap. That’s pretty concerning, especially for the staff who should be washing their hands.

They got busy all at once, which I completely understand, so I was patient about the wait for food. I ordered my usual Boss Hog burger, but it tasted off this time. When I checked, I found a piece of wax paper still attached to the burger — possibly from the cheese slice. That’s not something a cook should miss.

When I asked for a manager, I was told none were on duty that early on a Sunday. The waitress apologized and took the burger off the bill, which I appreciated, but overall, the experience was really disappointing. I have been here plenty of times in the past, drove from a hour away at times. To say this place has gone downhill is saying the least. We drove 30 minutes expecting the same quality and service we received years ago - what we got was the complete opposite. We arrived with the brunch buffet cold and empty with only two clean plates left, the chaffing pans weren’t even lit. We asked our server if more food was coming out, she said yes. We had to ask again 20 minutes later and then she actually went to ask the kitchen. A pan of noodles came out - that was it! After an hour of being here we were ready to go - our waitress was aware of our frustration and disappointment, swiped our card then returned to offer us a discount. Waiting another 10 minutes only to receive $5 off 😂 unless spending $22 and a hour of your time on a half plate of cold eggs and potatoes sound appetizing I would never recommend this place.
