Juicy & light, but dry and tough.
Janet was a great waitress she really made our experience excellent! The place was very classy and far from your average diner. The food is also reasonably priced. The 3, 4, and 5 course meal options is a great idea. For just myself, I was able to get refills on my drink, salad, soup, dessert and an entrée for just $17 dollars. The best part is they didnt cheap out when it came to food either.
The appetizer that ny friends and myself ordered was a mix of everything. Although the only thing I really ate was the chicken fingers, everything appeared appealing. The chicken fingers were juicy and the breading wasn't overly greasy. Next was the ceasar salad from the "4 course meal" deal. It was crunchy and still brightly green. As for the croutons, they were, well, mostly crunchy and fresh. There were a few that appeared a bit soggy but overall it was very tasty. The last thing I was able to sink my teeth into was the chicken parmesan. One of my favorites and a huge go to. When the plate first came out, it did appear hearty and appetizing. The chicken was crispy, and tender with little grease. A thin parmesan cheese layer was melted throughout the top. The cheese was stringy, warm and milky. I must say, however, the chicken did taste a bit dry and just a little tough in some areas... The gravy or "sauce" used was very light and rich. Some of the seasoning were very strong, and if did appear a bit watered down. It was not acidic or thick as you would usually expect from a homemade style. This did make me wonder, and believe, it could be canned and not homemade. The last part of my meal was the cheesecake. I must say that I did not eat the cheese cake in restaurant, but it was very flavorful and sweet.
Overall the experience was positive, the food appealing and staff pleasant. I would reccomend this place to a friend or family member, and I will be back to...
Read moreMy friend and I made last-minute lunch plans on Friday. We initially were going to get Mexican food at another restaurant, but it was not open. So we took out our phones to see what else was nearby. Lamp Post Diner came up as an option. My friend said it was very good. I have never been there, but I always wanted to try it because it was always highly recommended on the South Jersey Food Scene Facebook group. And I felt like I remembered that they also have a taco salad served in a taco shell - which is what I was craving!
When we arrived, it was very busy, but we were seated right away. It may help to look at the menu ahead of time because there were SO many choices. But I didn’t look for long because they did have my salad! My friend got the Diablo omelette. My Ranchero taco salad was massive and delicious! I was still eating after my friend had finished and even had to take half of it home. The ingredients included barbecue chicken. I asked for grilled chicken and there was no issue with that. And note, the chicken was amazing. I’ve also heard good things about their desserts, so I took a peanut butter cheesecake slice home to my husband. It was good. Next time I would like to try the carrot cake. The ends of the carrot cake because the frosting looked amazing.
Service was perfect. Our server was polite, attentive, and just enough chattiness. Not sure if that’s a word. Lol
Please keep in mind that the diner has much more than Mexican food on their menu. It was just what we had in mind for the day. I will have to definitely come back to try some other menu items. I recommend that you do the same! Definitely one of my best diner...
Read moreUpdated Review 7/23: I had to update my review from my last visit here. This time was way better! The food was really good and fresh. The service was good and we were seated comfortably. We did not have a great experience last time and I’m happy to say it was completely different this time. I will return again! I am disappointed to say they no longer have curly fries. :(
The appearance of this diner is appealing, in fact it is huge. They were super busy when we went and there were many “regulars” in there. If it wasn’t for the food, I would have rated it much higher.
I ordered mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. The sauce was good but the mozzarella sticks were doughy and not cooked very well. The waitress says that they just started using new mozzarella sticks. I wouldn't get them again.
I ordered a grilled cheese with bacon and curly fries. First, I rarely come across places that serve curly fries so this was a huge plus for me. The sandwich, however, was greasy and I had to take most of the bacon off because it was undercooked and rubbery.
Finally, I ordered a danish and an apple turnover to go. They were both rock hard and had very little flavor. I was disappointed because they advertise a bakery so I thought I would get bakery quality. The one thing I did like is that they had all of the bakery items individually wrapped.
I would give the diner one more try but I definitely will not be ordering bakery items. They do have a really large menu, so I can try...
