Michigan Base Camp — Restaurant in Golden Township

Decided to bail on our oatmeal and stop at Michigan Base Camp instead and boy howdy was it worth it! I got the S’mores latte and my husband got the latte of the week which had marshmallow and vanilla. They have cows milk and non-dairy milk options. The lattes were so delicious and as someone who loves a sweet coffee, they were exactly what I was hoping for. For breakfast, I had the country boy waffle which was the perfect combo of savory and sweet. My husband had the breakfast burrito which was so incredibly flavorful with a smoky flavor and the salsa tasted like it was fresh made. Our friend got the avocado toast which was fully loaded! It’s clear that the ingredients used are fresh. From the eggs to the meat to the veggies, everything was very high quality. We went on a Saturday morning so the wait for the food was over 30 minutes, but it’s a statement to the fact that everything is clearly made to order. We had no problem finding a table and the shop has lots to look at while you wait. My only real complaint is the plastic silverware is very flimsy which often made cutting into the food challenging. We signed up for the Polaris Sling Shot rentals and that was a lot of fun and highly recommend, but what made this place memorable is the people! The staff treat you like old friends from the second you enter the place. We came back the next day for coffee and a breakfast sandwich just to see everyone again! Great coffee, best we've had in town, and the food is great, too! Highly recommend stopping in for food or drinks or even some souvenirs. And if you are on the fence about the SlingShot rentals, don't be, it was a wonderful way to see a lot of the area, in the open air. Michigan Base Camp has quickly become our favorite place for coffee, breakfast, and random things we forgot for the camper in our first year as seasonal campers in the area. We have been there dozens of times this summer and everything has been great, including the extremely friendly owners and staff. Last weekend we had the chance to drive the Polaris Slingshots for a few hours and they were an absolute blast driving around Mears and Hart. I highly recommend you stop in there for some great food, and take an adventure on the slingshots. Can’t wait to come back up...
