Literally feels like I got scammed, do not rent from here.
Immediate red flag upon arrival. The pictures online display a little shop with a checkered floor, and when we arrived it was a big messy garage.
Then once we were getting set up with our vehicle the owner tried to get us to buy their goggles that they sell for $20 each, insisting that our personal ones that we brought (which we were RECOMMENDED to bring) would be “no good” (exact words) by the time we were done using them for our ride. They never mentioned the price and didn’t have it listed anywhere, and our goggles were perfectly fine at the end of the ride anyway, so to me that screams money grab. This was the least of our issues with this place.
Owner mentioned upon arrival that the buggy we rented would not be able to do the biggest hills, only the smaller area that he pointed out, which is information that should have been provided upfront before payment, given that this company is VERY adamant about no refunds at all for any reason.
Once we got to the dunes and we were heading to the smallest hills, our buggy got stuck on FLAT LAND about 5 minutes in to our ride. Luckily a man and his young son who are experienced with dunes stopped to help us and the first thing they said when they walked up was that we had the cheapest tires you could possibly buy, they were the wrong kind, and they were hard as a rock, when they are supposed to be as close to 0 pressure as possible for dune riding. You would think a company that the only thing they do is rent out dune buggies would know how the tires are supposed to be so that people don’t get stuck. Luckily we were able to get ourselves out but it seemed like they wanted us to get stuck so that we would have to pay the $150 tow fee.
Also, before we left for our ride, the owner told us to call the phone number on our map if we had any problems or got stuck, and never mentioned the tow fee nor was it printed on the map. I only knew the fee because of reading it on the website.
After almost getting stuck again on FLAT LAND again, we decided to just park and watch the water to try to get something out of the $500 we paid. Right after we pulled up and parked, the tow truck from Sunbuggy Rentals, which is about a 15 drive from the actual dunes by the way, pulled up next to us and asked if we needed a tow and when we told them that we were okay they seemed very surprised. This solidified my idea that they tried to get us to need to be towed because it almost seemed like they were expecting it.

I am deeply disappointed with the unprofessional conduct and poor service provided by SunBuggy Silver Lake Dunes. My recent experience with their customer service has left me feeling frustrated and disheartened.
Upon requesting an explanation for the withheld damage deposit, SunBuggy did respond to my email, but their actions and subsequent behavior were far from satisfactory. They attached a few photos of alleged damage; however, none of the pictures featured our rented vehicle. When I specifically asked for photos clearly showing the damage on our vehicle, they promised to send them but failed to follow through.
Furthermore, their rudeness and disrespectful attitude during our phone conversations were highly unprofessional. Instead of addressing our concerns, they accused us of wasting their time by making multiple calls. Their dismissive behavior and refusal to provide adequate evidence left me questioning their integrity.
It is perplexing that SunBuggy claims the damage is with our vehicle but fails to present any visual proof specific to our rental. In their email, they even mentioned a different vehicle number in reference to the damage shown. This inconsistency raises serious doubts about the accuracy of their claims. If they are confident in their allegations, why are they reluctant to provide the necessary evidence?
The lack of transparency, professionalism, and respect demonstrated by SunBuggy Silver Lake Dunes is deeply troubling. As customers, we should be treated with fairness and courtesy, regardless of the circumstances. Unfortunately, my experience with this company has been far from that standard.
I strongly caution others against renting from SunBuggy Silver Lake Dunes, as their actions and behavior reflect a disregard for customer satisfaction and a lack of integrity. It is crucial for businesses to uphold ethical practices and provide reliable evidence when making claims against their customers.
In light of this disheartening experience, I feel compelled to share my disappointment by posting this review. I hope it serves as a warning to fellow consumers and encourages SunBuggy to reevaluate their customer service practices.

Read moreVery disappointing experience. My friends and I rented the 4 man buggy, a 2 man buggy, and also their most powerful 2 man buggy. All of them lacked the power to get up any form of incline. We got immediately stuck going up a small hill, noticed that the belt which provides torque to the vehicle was too loose and getting extremely hot. We tried calling for help but had no signal whatsoever. We had to push the buggy out ourselves and were going to return the vehicle but got stuck again going up the baby hill right before the only exit to the dunes (buggy could not get up an unavoidable hill to return the vehicle). While trying to get the buggy unstuck, the belt snapped (as we had forecasted). A maintenance worker did find us and fit us with another belt but we couldn’t stand to be in this underpowered buggy any longer. We paid for 2 hours but returned the buggy within 1 hour and simply asked if we could be reimbursed for the 1 hour difference. They were adamant that this could not be done and the best they could do was give me a gift certificate for the full price of the rental, which they would email me. This was yesterday and I still have not received the gift certificate or the security deposit. I will increase this ranking when I receive my security deposit and gift certificate, but as for right now a 1 star is the only ranking appropriate and I’d advise no one to rent a buggy from this establishment.
The employees that worked there were very kind but seemed to know that the buggy’s were a rip off based on what they told us throughout the experience. -“Everyone has been complaining these can’t make it up any hills” -“These buggy’s constantly got problems” -“If you really wanted to go anywhere you should have gotten a UTV” These are all actual quotes from the employees that work at sunbuggy.
Again, I’ll increase this ranking for the customer service when I receive the gift certificate and security deposit, but that has not happened yet.
UPDATE- I have received the security deposit back, but have not heard anything about the gift certificate that they promised would be...
