Updated for 2019: resort is under new ownership. We have had issues getting adjacent spots most every year we've been here. Last year we were specifically told that if we reserved multiple spots together we would be able to keep the spots we requested. I did so, and even included a message in the "special instructions" field of the reservation page. We were travelling with another family and we both have small children, so we wanted to be near our campers after the kids went to bed. Imagine my surprise when we arrived, after driving nearly 6 hours, to find that not only were our requested spots not honored, but they couldn't relocate us because we had been "optimized" by corporate. There was a $20 fee we could've paid to reserve the spots we requested, but that information isn't published online (which is where our reservations were made). The manager could not have been nicer but his hands are clearly tied by RIDICULOUS corporate policies that separate families trying to enjoy their vacations together. He told us that corporate is unwilling to do away with this policy or make adjustments for anyone. The people who work here have been receiving threats from angry customers all season and still nothing can/will be done. This was our 5th and final trip to this campground. It is such a shame because the grounds are beautiful and the sites are awesome. I suggest you take your camper to Silver Lake Resort and Campground, down the road. They were happy to show us around and guaranteed that we would be given the spots we reserved for next year.
We visit this campground annually but after our most recent visit we may not return. This is an immaculate campground. The grounds and facilities are always sparkling clean and there are very few bugs. The spots are all large enough to accommodate a tow vehicle and a recreational vehicle. There's a bike path you can take to town right out front.
On our last visit we felt very unwelcome. We made our reservations as many months as possible in advance, and were traveling with another party, which we notified them of at the time of our booking. When we arrived they told us they didn't have any spots close together for our party. They refused to move anyone until we complained loudly, at which time we learned they didn't want to move us because it was a hassle to do so in their computer system. That's extremely poor customer service. People often camp together and it's not unreasonable to ask to be close to each other. My husband overheard the staff complaining about "weekenders" as well, which explains the chilly welcome we received. As others have said there is very poor cell coverage here and as a result the WiFi is horribly oversubscribed. We had to go to the pool to get any access at all. We don't camp to sit on our phones the whole time, but it would be nice to be able to access email and social media...
Read moreWe have been seasonal guests since this campground first opened 18 years ago. Until this year, everything was awesome. This season brought new ownership, new management and new disappointment in the way things are handled! We got called “Elitist” because we stay in the desirable west loop and have been here since it’s construction. Todd also told my husband that 92% of the seasonal people are lying , cheats and thieves until he gets to know you. “Guilty until proven innocent “. Really? We’ve never had any issues at all in our 18 years here! Maybe Todd (Manager) should consider everyone good, hardworking, family oriented guests before considering them as “Lying, Elitist” Privileged, Annoying people! We have been treated very disrespectfully by the New Manager and more specifically his wife, Courtney who poses as the manager. She is aggressive when you communicate any concerns about the “corporate” rules they are enforcing. So much so, she actually charged toward my husband with her finger in his face. Several of our long time neighbors have also had the same type of interaction with her as well. Our good friends and neighbors had a confrontation with her and Todd over a parking spot that could have been easily handled without her aggressive behavior. It seems to me that the Manager has more then enough to handle with his wife’s behavior than to worry about small things that could be handle with diplomacy and decency toward another human beings. You cannot blame your bad behaviors on “The Corporate Office”. This is a very bad business decision on the part of Sun Properties (corporate) to let this Manager and his wife, stay in position until the end of the season. Cut your losses now before you have a unrepairable reputation in this small community of Duners. We’ve decided to leave at the end of the season solely because of the treatment of the Management and his wife. Sadly, we will leave the friends and neighbors we’ve had all these years. We will also leave 18 years of great family memories, children growing up here and now their children experiencing this once great vacation...
Read moreWe’ve been coming for approximately 5 years now and we feel like things are going down hill since it’s been run by Sun RV. The staff are not very friendly and they charge extra for every little thing such as checking in early, parking extra vehicles, visitors, etc. We were talked to about parking our golf cart on the grass but from other reviews it sounds like you can’t even park bikes or anything on the grass. This was our first year bringing one up so we had no idea. Also we were talked to because our daughter was driving a golf cart and she’s not 16 with a drivers license. We saw multiple kids on scooters and bikes in the roadway with no parents around and vehicles honking because they couldn’t get through…I feel like that is more of a hazard than a big golf cart. Maybe make a path/walkway for bikes, scooters, golf carts, walkers, etc. We had a person from another site come over to look at our dune truck and security was over to our site in no time to make sure they pulled their vehicle away. They were not blocking the road completely and were just fellow campers trying to catch us while we were there to ask a few questions.
We were given different info in regard to visitors also, some of our visitors were charged $5/ea to get in plus would have had to pay $5 to park across the road unless we had a site we were already paying for but other visitors just paid $5 for the vehicle and were able to park up by the office. We noticed our cabin wasn’t completely clean, saw food behind the front door and a razor cover on the floor in the bathroom plus there was someone’s hair on our sheets. I looked at pricing and rates have now gone up to $252 for future visits and we were just charged $194/night. We agree the convenience of the cabins is nice but when the atmosphere is not the friendliest we aren’t as excited to jump on booking our next vacation here. We heard multiple other people complaining also so we aren’t the only ones noticing the little things that are going to push people to go...
