Update: If Victoria or any of the waitresses dislike you expect to be mistreated or kicked out. The owner will do nothing about it and allow her to run customers out of there for no good reason. They must of forgot its a bar and grill not a Night Club. They should also treat everyone the same and not pick and choose who can be in there after 9:00. Some days your served by under age bartenders and you witness 18-19 year olds being served alcohol but then they pick and choose other 20 year olds they kick out just because they have personal issues with the person. My family and I have been customers of this restaurant since the previous owners opened up. We have always loved the food, the atmosphere all while supporting local businesses until last night. As we walked in and took a seat at a table near the bar, we hear one of the employees (Victoria) discussing us loudly saying our daughter was 19 and was not allowed to be in there. It was 8:30 in the evening and our daughters have been in there countless of times way past this time along with children so we were unaware they had a new policy. The waitress the employee was talking to proceeded to walk over to our table and only make eye contact with my daughter, and not with any of the other five adults at the table and said āUnder 21 is not allowed past 9:30 if yāall are only here for drinksā. My wife asked when this started being a thing since there were no signs stating this and as I mentioned we have been here countless times an families with terns and children have been present after that time. The waitress Tyla rolled her eyes and walked away frustrated that we werre questioning her. I stood up went to The bar where she was, and asked for a manager or to speak to the owner due to how rudely she was treating us and everyone around us was looking at our table making us feel uncomfortable. She turned her back on me and at that time the manager was walking up and she told her āHandle herāā¦.excuse me what??? The manager apologized and said things should of been handled differently, apparently there was an incident the week before and they decided to implement the 21 and older rule. By the time we walked out they were putting signs up. This is not the first time we here Tyla be rude to customers or make derogatory comments about the dj lady but it was the first time she treated us rudely. Definitely not a good way to treat customers. Do not recommend families to come have dinner if you have children or teens! Left a voicemail to the owner but as of now havenāt received...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf the Running M were in a larger city, I would rate it lower. However, considering it is in Gonzales, and our dining choices are extremely limited, it's an alright place to grab a meal. I wish I could give it 3.5 starts. Four feels too high, but three feels too low.
It's directly on the square, making it convenient if you are visiting downtown for CATI or just checking out the history of Gonzales. Inside it feels like a great little joint in a small Texas town. I've had their chicken fried steak. It was not the best I've had, by far, but also not the worst. The last time I visited, I went out on a limb and gave the fish tacos a whirl. I was pleasantly surprised! They were very delicious. My mom is a big fan of liver and onions (I am NOT). However, I did try it, and it was just about the most tender liver I've had in my life. Still have no desire to eat an entire plate, but for those of you that are down with liver, be sure and call ahead to find out what day it's on special (Mondays, I think?).
Unfortunately, I have to encourage you to skip the desserts. I've tried the chocolate and blueberry pies, and they are both entirely too gelatinous. If that's your thing, go for it. However, the filling was much too thick and gloppy for my preference.
Overall, it's a typical small town experience with a wide range of...
