Sunday around 3:00pm, June 8, 2025, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a steak dinner at Mixteco restaurant. This would be our third visit. The dining room buzzed with the usual early dinner chatter and the clatter of dishes. We both ordered the sirloin steak dinner, eager for a hearty meal. But as soon as our plates arrived, our excitement quickly faded. The steak, though it looked appetizing, was so tough that even their sharpest steak knife struggled to cut through it. Every attempt to slice a piece felt like sawing at rubber. My husband and I exchanged disappointed, realizing neither of us could eat it. Sending food back was out of the question for us. I’ve heard too many unsettling stories from friends who’ve worked in restaurants—stories of food being tampered with after being returned to the kitchen. Because of this, we always quietly box up our food and mention any issues to the cashier or manager as we’re paying, hoping it might help improve things for the next customer. As we made our way to the front to pay, a woman ahead of us accidentally dropped her takeout tray. A small portion of her food spilled onto the countertop near the register, leaving a minor mess on the floor. She looked flustered, quickly paid, and left. The cashier, a an older looking man, disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a small piece of paper towels. I placed my tray as far from the spill as possible, wanting to keep my food safe. There was nothing on my food box. He knelt down and wiped the floor where the food had fallen. Then, without hesitation, he used the same dirty paper towel to wipe the countertop where the spill had been. I felt a wave of unease, but what happened next made my stomach turn. He picked up my takeout box and, using that same contaminated paper towel, wiped the bottom of my container. It was not in a bag!!! But, even if it had, it would not made any difference to me. I stood there in disbelief, unable to process what I was seeing. It was a blatant disregard for basic hygiene, right in front of customers. I was disgusted! This is being absolutely FILTHY! I paid for our meal in stunned silence, too shocked to say anything. The moment we stepped outside, I put the container in the back of my car and threw container of food away once I got home. I didnt bring into my house. It went into the garbage! My back seat will be sprayed and sanitized. There was no way I could eat something that had been contaminated and handled so carelessly. When the box is handled, you have all the filth on your hands!!! Gross!! I quickly sanitized my hands when I got into my vehicle. No one should eat at this restaurant. If this is how they treat food and surfaces in plain view of customers, imagine what might be happening behind closed kitchen doors. The lack of cleanliness and respect for customer safety is alarming. I sincerely hope the health department steps in before someone gets seriously ill. Please, for your own health and peace of mind, avoid this place at all costs. Your well-being isn’t worth the risk. Go to another restaurant. My husband and I will never be back to that restaurant! What goes on in the kitchen reflects what goes on in the...
Read moreThis was the grand opening of El Mixteco in Grayson, Ky. As always with most Mexican restaurants we were 1st served with chips and salsa and got an order of queso also. The Salsa was ok but was a tad too hot for our liking but the queso I thought was really good. My daughter ordered a chicken quesadilla deluxe I think and she just didn’t like it, it looked good appearance wise. The beans just had a weird taste to them and the vegetables inside wasn’t throughly cooked so she gave it 2 stars. My wife order Tamales and she said they deserve a 0 and she wasn’t lying as I tried them. Probably the worse tamales I’ve ever tasted in my life. I didn’t think you could screw Tamales up? I ordered a pollo al la mexicana and it was actually real good. I’d seriously give it a 5 star and the serving was huge and thank goodness because I shared it with my wife. Our waiter did a really good and I thought the prices were reasonable and we also got a 30% discount for the grand opening which was good. Overall the food wasn’t nearly as good as the Tres Hermanos in Olive Hill and Grayson but I plan on trying it...
Read moreHubby and I went the weekend they opened here in Grayson. He ordered the chicken burrito with chorizo on top for his meal, and I ordered all beef taquitos mexicanos for mine. We also ordered 3 beef tacos and an order of cheese dip. Everything was very tasty, fresh and large portions. Would order any of it again. The cheese dip was very good. Most of the time, it just tastes like goo, but theirs had a good flavor. We were both full when we left and we brought home half of our meals. The staff is very friendly and attentive. It was an enjoyable dinner and will be...
