My mother and I live near Gettysburg Pa and made the trip to this resturant on a whim after a Yelp! Heads up. We spent a good 30 minutes deciding where to have our annual mother daughter meal. ( since my 3 young girls usually go everywhere with us) I must say, we were both impressed Upon arrival we were seated at a table next to the 'fireplace' The setting was comfy-cozy & country with primitive decore. We were quickly handed menus and asked what we would care to drink. Then our sever, Mary Lou ( who is amazing) took our orders and returned with homemade buttery biscuits and fresh apple butter -yum :) Mom and I both ordered homemade coleslaw ( very creamy, chunky, sweet) she even let us sample before ordering. My mother and I both ordered the beef brisket. Mom enjoyed a bowl of clam chowder and in no time our food arrived. The beef was pretty tender, it came in long thick slices (about 4 decent sized pieces). The mashed potatos, although abit thick had a great taste and were also good. The corn on the cobb was ok, but not the greatest probably since it is currently out of season and the corn was not the typical frozen half cobb you get most places. Mom said her broccoli was on parr. I had planned to order a dessert, but we left WAY too full. Thanks so much for a truely unforgetable, awesome experience. We will definately be back. This is my new favorite resturant. You do not have to ask for a refill or extra napkins . The waitress really made the experience worth every penny and then some. Also, the food is...
Read moreWent there for breakfast for the first time on 4 July. Food was ok, but cold. Waitress did ok, but took a long time to come back and check on us. We were almost finished eating by the time she came back with a coffee refill. She brought a small cup of apple butter for my husband’s biscuit. It was very tasty and we asked her where they bought it. She said it was made in house so we asked if we could purchase some. She brought us a pint jar and we did not ask the price. My husband paid the bill and I didn’t look at the receipt until the next day. OMGsh! It was $14.99 for a pint jar! I would have never paid that for a small jar of apple butter! I called in right after seeing this and confirmed with the manager that we were not over charged. She gave me several flimsy excuses (price of apples, etc.) to justify the price. I also told her the waitresses should quote prices to customers before they add it to the bill. She offered to refund my money, but before I could finish my comments, she cut me off and said she was busy and had to go…..so rudely dismissed me! We will not eat there again! Ps. The apple butter was very thin and runny and I found a whole apple slice in the jar! It was more like apple sauce than apple butter…..very...
Read moreShould have known better with a NOW HIRING in the middle of the sidewalk entrance! I don't know if THAT was the problem tonight or not, but my dinner was disgusting. The best thing was the bisquit and apple butter. Always a hit. I ordered the brisket dinner, french fries and cole slaw. What could go wrong? After all, they tought their BBQ! One word DISGUSTING. Slaw was normal food supplier slaw. OK, I get it. But the fries had oil actually dripping off of them and there was a pool, no not a dribble, a pool of grease that they were soaking in on the platter. I tried dabbing them with napkins but to no avail. They just turned into wet noodles. Let's get to the brisket, shall we. $18.99 for a scoop, YES, ice cream scoop full of dried, tiny, little chunks of "brisket". I would have been better of ordering the brisket sandwich for 9.99 w/ fries and probably got an equal amount of meat or more! And at least the roll would have helped fill me up. The outside sign said evrything that is needed about the service, so...Will I ever go back? I won't say never, but it sure does sway that way. In conclusion, on word. No two....
