I picked this place because I needed a quick lunch while in Greensboro for the day for work and didn't want to feel like crap afterwards. Hibachi is a healthy-ish option, and then I was sold on the lunch deal. Figured, worst case, it was a cheap lunch. I didn't expect a delicious meal worthy of table service hibachi restaurants. This is one of those places that make thinking of strip-mall restaurants as a 'hole in the wall' a thing of the past.
This restaurant seems relatively new, but the ownership already have repeat customers, with 3 coming in while I was here for 30 and the owners memorized their orders. The owners are very kind and accommodating and the ambiance of the restaurant is nice for a small, fast-casual place. Super cute, hello kitty type vibes.
I got the chicken, shrimp, and steak combo for lunch, which was right at $15 and would easily be $25-$30 at a table service style restaurant. I upgraded to having noodles from rice, which is included in that $15-ish cost. It came with a miso soup OR a ginger salad and I chose the latter. The salad was a good ginger salad, and the hibachi was fantastic. The female owner took my order, careful to verify several times, and asked me how I wanted my steak cooked, which I thought was interesting since I assumed for the deal it couldn't be super high quality steak. However, I bit into the steak during my meal and was surprised to find myself thinking 'holy crap, is that a perfectly cooked medium rare?'. Now, temper your expectations, this isn't A5 Wagyu, but it's better quality steak and food than you'd expect for a fast-casual, strip-mall restaurant. I'd forgotten she'd asked about the steak temp, accidentally dismissing the idea that it would be anything noteworthy to the steak, and only noticed because of my, uh, appreciation for (obsession with) food. On top of all of this, the portion was fantastic. I kept trying to find where the cost was hidden, so to speak, but it's just a great freaking value with a delicious meal. The only thing hidden was the chicken and steak I'd missed under my noodles, which, of course, my big backed self was happy to keep finding. I didn't finish the noodles and I'm accidentally stuffed. But, while we're on the subject, these weren't your typical after-thought noodles you get at 99% of places like this. It was seasoned super well and generously, and there were a ton of onions, carrots, etc. in the noodles, which added to the fantasticalness of the entire meal. The food is served in to-go format, so I could have (probably should have) taken left overs.
The service is semi-table service, with the food and drinks being brought out, you throw away your trash, and then they clean the tables. Restaurant was very clean. Would highly recommend for lunch, dinner,...
Read moreMy wife and I have been here at least three times this far. They haven't disappointed us yet at all with their polite and attentive service! My wife has had to make requests to watch for dairy in the ingredients and they took care to reassure us they would cater to her needs. They even remembered that detail after a second visit without her having to remind them!! Great good, great taste, very friendly service! The menus may be a little more limited than we are used to but actually that makes for easier decisions in ordering. We can especially appreciate the simpler menus in that it's easier for the owner on upfront ingredient costs for starting up a business, that's something few customers have the ability to understand in running restaurants. I can truly understand that and I see what they are doing and I feel they are doing it smart. Sumo Hibachi offers great food in very accommodating portions for the value, especially when one considers the price of the...
Read morePlaced the order via phone asked clearly if everything was cooked fresh. Needless to say that clearly this they are unaware of hibachi style dishes all the the vegetables were precooked and definitely overcooked. They steak was so tough my dog got choked. Called back to inform the restaurant of my disappointment and asked if they could fix the issue the hung the phone so I went back up there with the food and the refused to do anything to fix the problem. As I patiently waited I noticed the cooks had no head covering nor did they wash they hands while they touched food and other items. They also was was putting fried rice they had over cooked in a pot with steamed rice. Anyone who eats hibachi a lot knows it if dry like no water or juice sitting in the bottom on container I donât suggest eating here very nasty place with nasty food and attitudes the service was so terrible really didnât even want to waste my time complaining itâs the overall principal ...
