I stopped for lunch at DUNCAN BBQ Co. in Lone Oak, Texas this week.

I have visited Duncan BBQ Co. several times in the past. For this visit I wanted to try my usual favorites as well as a couple that I have not tried leaving plenty to take home for leftovers.

Brisket: I ordered a portion of lean, moist as well as an end. It had deep bark with a light crust from smoke and not heavy with seasoning. I found perfectly rendered fat, the moist and end cut easily with a fork and the lean pulls apart easily with a fork- no knife is required to eat the brisket. The end allows more of a chance for taste the bark.

Pork ribs: I ordered two from the middle of the rack as well as one from the end. On the middle of the rack the outside had soft bark vs crust so the entire bite was moist on the bone end. The tip was not rendered as well as I like but it had great flavor. On the end of the rack there was more of a crust which aids in giving more of a variation of flavor allowing for more smoke to be retained.

Sausage: made in house with smooth grind, great seasoning, crisp casing and a hint of seasoning.

East Texas Twinkie: blended meat, cheese and seasonings inside of a split, cored and bacon wrapped then glazed and seasoned large jalapeño pepper. This was great inside and out and pairs well with the supplied tart sauce.

Bacon wrapped chicken leg: smoky flavor with tender and moist meat throughout. The combination of bacon and chicken in each bite is a nice changed from typical smoked chicken. This paired well with the supplied sauce made specifically for this item.

Banana pudding: simple banana pudding mixed with whipped cream, fresh banana slices and a mix of solid and crushed vanilla wafers.

Sweet smoky sauce is available that compliments the items but was not needed on this visit.

This is a great and consistent restaurant that is open Thursday- Sunday 11-8pm or when sold out of available items. Duncan is conveniently located on US-69 HWY on the North side of Lone Oak where travelers from Greenville will pass it going South or Tyler will pass it going North.

Was coming back from Stanley bbq, and they got the potato salad order wrong. So we thought we would grab some at Duncan's. While in line, I thought I'd grab a half pound of brisket and compare to Stanley's, and to be honest, it was a tie they were both darn great. But the potato salad from Duncan's was very, very good! I was surprised it was like mashed potatoes but tasted like potato salad without any chunks. It was different but very tasty. We liked we give it 2 thumbs up! I only 4 because I couldn't give a 5 just off order of potato salad and a half pound of brisket. But they were both great. 8 months later, I came to try more of their products. Got ribs, brisket, potato salad, and Pinto beans. On the brisket, we got half wet and half dry (half fatty and half no fat). The wet brisket was great, but the dry brisket was a little the dry you had to have sauce on it swallow. Dry but by no means a deal breaker. The wet brisket was great, and the dry with sauce was delicious. The potato salad is out of this world. I love it. Tried the Pinto beans this trip they were cooked to perfection. I will say they had just a bit to much salt for me, but hey, that's me. All in all very happy with our fathers day meal choice. I Recommend this place if anything to try...

I am a regular at 11am every Thursday. This is very likely the finest BBQ establishment east and west of the Atlantic Ocean. You heard that right, the world. The atmosphere and ambiance is simple and perfect. You are there to have brisket juices run down your chin and the decor shows it. Sliced in front of you - you see exactly what you are going to get, he cuts heavy if anything and usually adds a slice of sausage so that you regret not ordering a pound of it. When you get to the counter, you expect to empty your wallet and be happy about it, but nope, reasonable prices. If there is ever a “special” or a new menu item, which is rare, get 3. It will likely include bacon or cream cheese and there’s a possibility it will change your life. Kind, courteous staff and always sells out, get there quick fast and in a hurry if you don’t want to cry yourself home without dinner. A destination...

The only reason I’m giving two stars is the service. The food is amazing and the place is a hidden gem!! I wanted to get catering for my baby shower, and I even went to the restaurant in person and tried to place an order. I was told I can’t because it got busy so I was given the owners number to call. He told me even if I don’t pick up I’ll give you a call back. I called soon after and never heard anything and left a voicemail. If catering was an issue or the business couldn’t do it, that would have been helpful to know instead of ghosting customers. Truly disappointing.
