Never in my life have I been in such a low position. And I know I'm not alone. I have been homeless, living out of my car since Christmas Day. No family, no friends, no Loved ones.
No, this post isn't about seeking pity. Lately I have been so down on my luck, and unable to seek employment, that I have had to go from place to place to get food at closing time. McDonald's, thank you. Little Caesars, thank you. And KFC, you suck!
I get it, these places get in trouble for handing out free food. In that case, their should be programs to feed the homeless. Is there? No. I've checked. At most, some donate once or twice a week, to the food bank, and frankly, it's not enough.
There are over 400 restaurants in greenwood. There are more than 1000 people homeless. That's how many hit up the food bank every month. Not counting those too prideful to not hit it up, or those that just can't for whatever reason.
People have to eat everyday. It's a way of life. I've gone without eating a few times for 7 days straight. Yes, I'm a big guy, and I'm sure I can take it. But, health wise, it's devastating. And I know I'm not alone. I live near about 10 others that aren't like me, much smaller and aren't as mobile nor as resourceful.
Tonight, I called KFC downtown and told the manager my truth. She told me to come down, because "she had a heart, even though they weren't supposed to do it." I told her I was trying to get food for myself and three other women who were also in the same situation, homeless that were staying in the same vacinity I was in.
I told her I would be there by 10:30pm, that I was at the bypass 72 and Montague intersection. She was in the middle of downtown Main Street. And it was 10:22pm. I was there by 10:27pm. Pulled up to the drive thru, and told the drive thru employee that I was the one that called the manager on the phone just a bit ago. She said pull around the drive thru side door. I did, and waitied over 35 minutes.
Finally, a dishwasher came out, male, and said, "you need to leave, before I call the law." I said, "call the law I'm only doing what your manager told me to do. I'm not on drugs, alcohol, and have no weapons. I'm waiting for your manager was instructed."
There was a big fiasco exchanged in words only, as I never got out of my car to escalate or intimidate the situation, and because by now, the store manager had me all flustered and worried, with my anxiety to the hilt, instead of recapping that my family passed in December, I accidentally said, September, and that ended the conversation. As I start stumbling over words when I get anxiety or nervous attacks. Part of the reason I travel 24/7 with a service dog for PTSD.
She judged me based on my car, had no intention of honoring her word, and threatened me even though I did exactly to the letter everything she instructed me to do. And nothing more. Even patient enough to wait more than a half hour for food that she has no intention to give me in the first place.
She could have saved everyone the trouble instead of lying and simply said on the phone, "No." If she was as nervous as the dishwasher said about me waiting outside, she could have immediately handed me the food when I arrived at 10:27, rather than wait until 11:07pm to start threatening me and judging me.
This is not a restaurant I ever plan on visiting again, even when I have the money again to do so. And I hope that the community at large, see this post, shares it, and stops going as well. Because honestly, or community should be better than this and support those that need help, instead of lying and sweeping us less fortunate under a rug and pretending we don't exist nor think just because we might not look homeless, that we aren't homeless.
Stand together folks, and stop letting companies and rude people with a little power like this win. Support your local restaurants and...
Read moreThis was the worst place! We ordered an all white meat 3 piece and a few sides, we waited for 20 minutes and then they asked me twice if I ordered the chicken tenders. Then they asked me what I ordered and wanted to see my receipt, after another 10 min we finally we got our food and the guy didn't give us any of the extra sides and biscuit we ordered. Told him about it and he agreed like he didn't know what I was talking about so I said it was on the receipt I gave you, he brought it back to me well we went to the truck and they gave us all dark meat. My husband went back in this time and they told him they were out of white meat! Well why didn't you tell me that when I placed the order? So instead you just randomly give someone dark meat after they've paid extra for white without even telling us?? He ended up having to get a different mask bc he doesn't like dark meat. This was by far the worst place I've been to in a long time and I will not be doing business in this particular...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would!! Placed an online order at 7:45 yesterday for pickup at 8:54PM. It’s raining, so I pulled In the drive thru. I say I have a mobile order and then the cashier tells me that I have to come in to get my order because it’s not ready. FIRST off, my order says ready for pick up. I then say why do I have To come in? Can I just Wait in line? No! You have to come in and sit down and wait for your order, it’s not done! I also mentioned that I heard the lady in the car in front of me place a big order and that hers wasn’t ready either but she didn’t have to go in to wait for her order. I ordered a 2 piece meal with one side and a drink, but it wasn’t ready in 15 mins… She said she didn’t have time to argue with me. So unprofessional!! The southside location has always been trash, but I keep going back thinking things might have changed! Go somewhere else! I will NOT RETURN!! And yes KFC CUSTOMER...
