Our foursome had a rather mediocre experience today at brunch. It was a first time at Brown Butter for 3 of us. The 4th had been in a couple times, and had pretty good experiences. It started fine, we all shared a delicious chocolate, cheese, cherry croissant. They cut it for us, which was nice, and gave us all just the yummy taste we wanted. That was actually quite good. We all had water and $3 mimosas. They were maybe a little over-solicitous on the rounds. They would ask if we wanted another when we weren't even half way through one, but that's fine, we just said no. The problems started for real with the entrees. Let me say, one member of our party was very happy. She had the Poutine & Eggs. This is how it went for the rest of us: one person's Seoul Burger was evidently not ordered at all. (They brought her another mimosa that she hadn't ordered, or intended to have, on the house to apologize and say it would be out asap. They really want you to drink. But it was a nice gesture.) Another guest ordered the Fried Green Tomato and Crab Benny. Sadly, there was VERY little crab. Other places in town that offer a similar dish have a sort of mini-crabcake and the tomato, etc. This was a small amount of shredded crab. Fairly disappointing, but we hadn't asked for a description expecting the familiar so she ate it without commenting to the staff. I had the pork shank with grits and egg. The grits were positively cold, and when ordering I hadn't been asked how I wanted my egg, and I didn't think of it until it arrived sunny side up with very undercooked whites. They were nice when I said I hadn't realized we maybe needed to specify our egg, could I please have over-medium. They also said they'd replace the cold grits with the new egg. But somewhat surprisingly they left what I had. So I pushed the egg and cold grits onto the plate I had that hadn't been cleared from the croissant. I figured I would try the pork while I waited for the other 2/3rds of the dish since it appeared to be relatively hot. Eventually when my friend got her burger and I got the rest of my meal they were at least all the right temperatures. She thought the burger was okay at that point. For my dish the flavor was just so-so. The pork shank was supposed to involve hot sauce but it was mainly sweet with no heat. The new grits were actually pretty tasty, hot and creamy in a bowl instead of the cold original scoop plating. We did wonder at one point if maybe they had overbooked their 10 AM. They looked to have several large groups and that can get unwieldy. When we received the check we saw that our friend's burger had been charged as the more expensive Seoul bowl. When we pointed it out they decided to remove it entirely rather than put it all through again at that point which was also nice, especially considering how long she had to wait for it from the initial mistake. The yummy croissant, one friend's love of the Poutine, and the fact that they were nice about correcting all the screw ups, if you will, got the 3rd star otherwise it would probably be 2. It was not a great brunch today in a town with a ton of great...
Read moreFirst of all, I cannot stress enough the ridiculously low value of the food for the cost. 18.00 for.a.burget that I ordered rare but received medium well is the equivalent of robbery. Second, calling mayonnaise aioli doesn't make your overcooked, no taste burger any better. And third, being served by a person who appeared less than recently groomed is just more than I can handle.
Dear Simon, Please accept and express my sincere apologies for my harsh description of my server. It was not intended to be hateful. I apologize.
Thank you for the refund.
If your servers found me short in my responses perhaps you or one of your co-owners should have engaged me to see if there was an issue. My first server was great; sadly, I caught him at the end of his shift so I didn't get to continue that experience. The second server who approached me did so in a manner that didn't make me feel like he was really prepared to get involved. He stood well away from my table and was rather less than engaging. My third server (whose identifying features I have removed from my review)...yeah, no. You had the opportunity to investigate and didn't. The opportunity to do damage control escaped you.
I, too, am very experienced in food preparation. I have never, ever seen a rare burger cook itself to medium well whilst sitting on a plate. Perhaps your burgers possess some mystical culinary powers of which I'm unaware. However, since you seem to be aware of a kamikaze death wish and want of a Viking funeral that your burgers have, maybe undercooked instead of "a smidge over" would be a more effective way to go.
If you are so proud of the painstaking and particular manner in which you prepare your aioli, maybe go the extra degree and spread it on the bun? At least put the vegetables on the side so your patrons don't have to deconstruct and then reconstruct their food.
While I find your defense of your team and the pride you obviously take in your work admirable, commendable even, your defensive attitude shows a lack of professionalism and a thin skin that outweighs the former quality.
Thank you, again for the refund, and for taking the time to...
Read moreHad a nice Sunday brunch with friends back in November 2018. Nice place that I had heard about via podcast commercials many times over. The service and all the food was good, but not WOW because Southern cuisine isn't my favorite thing. In fact I started giving Brown Butter Southern Kitchen 4 stars because of that, but I can't, in good conscience, give a lower rating because of my food preferences. A good friend chose Brown Butter and happily, our party of four ordered lots of different items, so I was able to taste several things that I would order if I found myself here again. My favorite was definitely the Chocolate and Cheese Croisant with Nutella, Brie and Amarena Cherries. I guess that would be considered more French than Southern. I also really liked the sweet potatoes. My entree order was the Apple Jack Stack with pulled pork, apple fritter, cheese, egg, fries and grits. Definitely a lot of stuff going on there! I'd like to suggest they add a couple of lighter items such as a fruit plate with granola or even French toast with fresh fruit. We were all quite happy with the service and the speed the food came from the kitchen. Just noticing that I see a lot more possibilities on their regular menu, so I'll have to check that out on a...
