Los Girasoles — Restaurant in Grinnell

This is one of the very best Mexican restaurants my family has ever had the pleasure to visit. Summary: the machaca and mole enchiladas were amazing (details below).

Starting with the chips, salsa, and refried beans, the servers provided three rounds (for free) while we waited for our food. Our kids were hungry, and they obliged. The salsa was a unique recipe with whole pieces of corn and other veggies.

Machaca is a rare find--it's a Mexican breakfast food (like huevos rancheros or huevos con chorizo) featuring shredded beef and eggs, and it was delicious. The beef was tender and the seasoning great. If you've never had machaca, you don't know what you're missing.

The mole was also one of the best I've ever had. The chocolate taste was there and it had a minor spiciness to it. Again, very delicious.

The service was great.

There was a bit of noise from repairs to the roof from derecho damage. But that should be over soon.

Stopped by on the way home from Des Moines., we decided to sample a few things. And were extremely surprised that we loved everything. The chicken taquito, It was more like a fried burrito and the flavor was phenomenal, The poppers were on point flavor wise. Though they were slightly overcooked for my taste, I thought the tamale was fantastic though My wife did not care for the chorizo flavor. I had the Cancun plate which is. The size of a medium pizza, a lot of places, Which is shrimp and scallop And mushrooms sauteed in a garlic butter. With plenty of rice and beans on the side. I'm really thrilled with the food, both quantity and quality. . And even with the communication barrier with a couple employees, my order was correct, and service was great. Will Definitely be stopping here...

just one employee who keeps messing up my orders. everything is great otherwise. the food the employees the experience. it's just one guy that never gets my orders right. it doesn't matter if it's food or drinks. anyone else gets it right. I'm not picky or anything I just order what's on the menu and he just doesn't do it no matter how many times I tell him. he just does what he wants or whats easiest and doesn't care because the managet just covers for him. and he talks back to me in Spanish so I mostly don't know what he's saying. I know just enough to know he's calling me things that are not appropriate to call a customer. will never go back ever again...
