We normally enjoy eating at Pizza Ranch in Newton. The service is good and friendly. The buffet has a variety of pizza's. They ask if you want a special request made and get it out to you promptly. We have also gotten the same good experience at Indianola's Pizza Ranch. Tonight we visited Grinnell's Pizza Ranch. We were not asked if we had a special request. We had to ask if they could make us our requests. The buffet was mostly empty the whole time we were there. Our special requests took a very long time. Once they were delivered after we had to ask for them multiple times, they were very greasy and the crust was very hard to cut through. There were no cups to put the ice cream in. No sauces of any kind except for hot sauce out for use. I asked for BBQ sauce and was handed a few packets, as if I were in a drive through. Our plates piled up on our table. I went to get coffee and the pots were gone. I asked for coffee and then again waited for along time. By the time I got some my party was ready to leave. I stood by the coffee area with my empty to go cup. I had to once again request coffee, my cup was taken to a back room. She brought my cup out to me carrying the cup with her fingers at the top of the cup where you drink. You never carry a beverage to someone in that manner. You do not put your fingers at the top of the glass. I normally do not complain much or even write reviews. But I was set back by our visit. Our guest was from out of state and had never been to a pizza ranch. We had to reassure him that this was not our normal experience, but we had never been to this location. Nor do we plan to revisit. My husband and myself have worked many years waiting tables when we were younger. We know how to give proper service, we would have been embarrassed to have given the kind of service we were...
Read morePizza Ranch does an exceptional job, they keep this chow hound comin back ever since my first visit seven years ago!
Their establishments [I've visited over 8] ALL STAND TALL!
The menu selection is similar to any pizza venue. I caution you folks, if your hungry GO FOR THE LUNCH OR DINNER BUFFETS!
Their eateries are clean, constantly monitored and well stocked. The tables and booths are constantly bussed removing unnecessary plates, silverware and extras your finished with. My hats off to these folks, they always politely ask if your finished with a plate or item before removing it!
Why do I go to Pizza Ranch THE CHICKEN! My oh my oh my the juicy succulent perfectly seasoned fried, I consider it broasted, chicken. The pieces are cut into good size portions. If you like the skin on get ready for a mouth waterin delight. For thos of you who don't its easily peeled off!
Of course no buffet would be complete without a well stocked salad bar. My appreciation is the Lettuce or Spinach selection. If all the above isn't enough their are two "Soups of The Day". Plus breadsticks and dessert pizza pies I never leave hungry.
When you purchase the lunch or dinner buffet the greeter will ask if you have a favorite pizza you'd like prepared fresh and brought to your table right out of the oven!
If your in a hurry theirs a $5.00 take out lunch special. Ya pick up a plastic plate with lid and it's your choice as to how you stock it. No you cannot get an entire pizza, certain rules apply.
The beverages are self serve, the restrooms are very pleasent smelling and clean.
My opinion without a doubt what makes Pizza Ranch shine above others are the employees. I honestly can say in the seven years eight eateries I've visited across the state I've never seen anyone without a smile!
Bravo Pizza Ranch,...
Read moreUpdated review- Sunday 5:30pm, July 19, 2020: The whole hour we were there they never had fresh pepperoni pizza- until I was leaving. The fried chicken bar was great. We were told that our kids can't help themselves. When my son put his hand on a clean plate the employee took it away and made me grab the next clean plate for him, don't understand that logic at all. We had to get a new cup for each refill. The lady was always nearby to remind us of the rules that I had to learn since it wasn't that way the last time. I decided I better leave when she started vacuuming at 6:30pm while yelling at the top of her lungs to be heard over the loud vacuum. We had a completely different experience on Friday at the same time and this lady wasn't there.
Previous review- Friday 5:30pm, July 17, 2020: Amazing! First time visiting Pizza Ranch. The thin crust pepperoni pizza was hot fresh and perfect! The salad bar was great. I was so surprised to find a fried chicken bar complete with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, the most perfect wedges, waffle fries and the chicken was fried to perfection. They have soft serve ice cream that paired nicely with their dessert pizza. There was a very attentive bus boy who kept our table cleared of old plates.
Drinks were included in the $11.99 dinner Buffet. For our family of 5 it was $36(3 kids ages 3,5,8).
I can't...
