Pub 97 — Restaurant in Groveland

My story is that back in March of 2015 I witnessed my friend Damon eat the challenge burger at the Pub 97. That night he was told that he was only the second person to ever conquer this burger and his picture was taken along with him receiving a t shirt and a gift certificate. The next time we visited which was back in October of this year to use the gift card and bask in the glow of hi picture being on the wall. Not only was his picture not hanging but when he tried to use the gift card it was denied which caused us to have to dig deeper into our pockets than was expected. The waitress told us to contact the manager/owner to straighten things out. I called the next morning and spoke to Terry who was very adversarial when I told him what had happened. He argued that no one except for some professional eater had ever beat the challenge. When I backed it up with facts including one of the employees on hand that night was an acquaintance of mine he back off a little and told me to come back with Damon on a night he was working and he would take care of everything. Last night my grandson, Damon , and myself returned to the Pub 97. I asked and introduced myself to Terry and told him why we were there. He never had the decency to come out of the kitchen after that to give Damon his due. There is still no picture on the wall and no congratulations for a feat that is nearly impossible. I really cannot recommend this place at all. We were very excited to have a good burger, considering that this palace's niche is having 97 of them. I was so disappointed by the lack of.... Everything. My partner ordered the smokehouse burger, which was supposed to have the wing rub on the patty. It had one spot on the center of the burger that was LOADED with the seasoning, and there was not an even spread of the flavor on the burger. Most bites were bland and flavorless while a few bites were so overwhelmingly robust with the over seasoned center. I ordered the burger that was supposed to have onions and garlic on it. The onions were quick cooked instead of being caramelized with flavor leading to a very water bite of onion. There was no garlic to be found. And the meat patty itself wasn't seasoned at all. It lacked even basic salt and pepper, let alone any other flavor you would expect from a well seasoned ground beef patty. On top of that, the beef that they use is so lean, you don't even get any actual fat flavor from the meat. The fries were good. The service was slow. The tv above the bar is so burnt out it was hard to see the golf game. Overall, I won't be recommending this restaurant to anyone, which is unfortunate because I really do think they could do so much better with some tweaks to their recipes and...

Usually get burgers to take out... And theyre usually great. Went there about 730 last night and ordered a Wisconsin RARE and a Classic MEDIUM RARE.... The hostess said it would be about 25-30 minutes. I sat at the bar and in 8 minutes they were up. Took them home and the "rare" Wisconsin and medium rare Classic were medium well with no pink, fully brown through the middle and not ozzing juicy the beefy goodness as was expecting. The fries were good crisp and hot and the garnishes were fine as always. Dont know if they were mistakes or worse "overcooks" but they werent what i expecting amd how quickly they came up suggests they may have already been cooked looking for a home. My girlfriend gave half of her overcooked Wisconsin to the dogs.... They loved it and dont care how overcooked it (or anything else) was. I ate mine... The dogs get enough stuff already! It was good but definitely not what i ordered and didnt have the energy to go back out and deal with it. Usually good but quite disappointed this time.
