This one is a late post. Totally forgot I had this picture and I wanted to share my thoughts on my meal. First of all, I’ve been to Michelle’s dozens of times, but never reviewed. Michelle’s is a Mangilao staple and to be honest, I don’t have any complaints. The best way I can describe this restaurant is…safe…and what I mean by that, is that: Hungry and don’t want to cook, go to Michelle’s. Need something quick during lunch? Call ahead and your food will be hot and ready when you get there. Almost always open. Pretty consistent. They cater for us, and have always been able to take care of us when we needed something last minute.
On this particular day, I wanted the braised beef (which is one of my absolute favorites there) but they were sold out so I settled for their Mongolian beef (pictured here). For me, it was perfect, but I think for others, they might consider it a bit too spicy. FYI, the server did warn me about the spiciness, but I ordered it anyway.
I don’t know what others think, but personally, I think their portions are big. I never finish a meal and can often create two meals out of one serving so for me, I do get more bang for my buck here. I like that I’m always greeted when I come in, and when I leave I feel that my money is appreciated. I like that it has a very comfy, old school vibe and I have many memories of coming here after 10am mass and eating with my family.
Don’t expect a 5 star gourmet meal here…but expect something hearty and yummy and will probably be ready for pick up or eat than most of the fancier upscale dining joints.
If you’re driving through Mangilao, it's worth a try....
Read moreWas heading to Thursday evening Mangilao Flea market, unfortunately it was closed so Michelle's Coffee Shop was the next option. Interesting visit my family was greeted and welcomed. Seated and ordered our meal. Waitress suggested special dinner menu, so I ordered deep fried fish (Pirot fish) not overcooked. I got perfect fried fish but with cut corn and chopped cabbage for vegetables. Odd combination I think. Wife ordered salt n pepper Pork Chop with corn and cabbage, daughter ordered Corn beef fried rice. Hot and sour soup as a side dish. Pork chops tasted good, Daughter after two bites she stopped eating and turned to the soup. Hot and sour soup was salty and too much vinegar. Overall presentation was not pleasing to the eye. I saw owner and employees talking about my daughter's look towards her when she startled my daughter while eating from the behind. Friendly wait staff, rude owner. Overall not very happy...
Read moreThis place was really good !!! Today was my first time there, my wife is a regular. I was thrown off because it looked like I would be eating the same old overcooked, way too oily, bland food that many restaurants like this serve. I couldn't have been more wrong. I had the Honey Dipped Fried Chicken, it was delicious. The skin had just a slight breading, cooked to a perfect crisp. The flavor wasn't consistent throughout the meat or on the outside, but turns out it was a plus. Sometimes, the taste of slightly salty/honey sweet chicken, sometimes more salty and chicken without much honey flavor, and a few choice bites with nothing but a pure honey flavored, perfectly fried, perfectly tender and...
