Can't believe I haven't gotten around to writing a review for the Rock House. I've been maybe 5-6 times now, and each time except for one has been absolutely delicious! The one outlier was only "pretty good," which still makes for a satisfying dining experience.
Although the seating is a little cramped and the restaurant is always busy, it's still cool and cozy inside. Lunch consists mostly of imaginative sandwiches and pizzas; dinner is more upscale with steaks. Brunch is absolutely a treat!!
I've never been for dinner, but my parents went for their anniversary and said the steak they had was among the best ever. The staff also left them a lovely anniversary card, too, which is a great touch.
The one time I went for brunch, I had this French toast dish that was actually mind blowing. Cinnamony toast, pecans, and maple syrup. It was cooked perfectly, melted in my mouth, and was perfectly portioned.
Otherwise, I've gone for lunch. I always get the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, but I've also tried their pizzas. My party always splits the fried green beans. This time, the chipotle sauce was a little hotter than usual. Still, the dish is always perfectly crispy, and the beans taste super fresh and snappy. The CBR is always succulent and juicy, with real applewood smoked bacon. SO yummy. The fries that I usually get with it aren't my favorite fries ever, but they are unique -- a different type of breading, I'm guessing tempura, gives them a more distinct flavor than other fries. I like them well enough, though sometimes I'd rather just go with a plain salty French fry. Oh well.
I recently had a bite of the spinach, chicken, and artichoke pizza, and it was also delicious. So much ooey, gooey cheese. And no dry chicken! Yay! My boyfriend also really loved his burger.
Service has been excellent most times. Once, at brunch, we had a server who was a bit of an oversharer...but every other time, they've been incredibly professional, polite, unobtrusive, and helpful.
A final tip: if they have the peach cobbler, do not under any circumstances hesitate to get it. You can...
Read moreI gave it a "Fair" rating but that's being overly generous. We went yesterday (Jan 31, 2015) for the first time ever with the family. We were shown our table, but as soon as we sat down, a lady rushed out and told us that that table was closed, so we moved. After we finally were seated, we ordered the sampler platter starter, and for meals, chicken salad, spicy salmon pasta, chicken bacon ranch sandwich, and veggie pizza.
The appetizer was brought out about 30 seconds before the entrees. So the appetizer technically came out first, but only because the server couldn't carry the entrees at the same time. The first thing we noticed was the messy fingerprints on the black appetizer plates. Restaurant owners, I’d recommend having white plates, or lower ambient lighting, so that the place setting doesn't look like the FBI just dusted for prints at a crime scene. Better yet, try cleaning the plates.
The fried green beans in the appetizer was pretty tasty, which barely nudged the rating up to a “fair”.
The only good thing I can say about the Julian’s Spicy Salmon was that it must be very healthy, because it sure lacked taste. It was watery and disappointing. So it went mostly untouched. When refilling my iced tea, I asked for more ice than tea. I think our waitress heard was “bla bla bla”, and my refill was warm tea. When we complained about the cold French fries, the waitress told us that she doesn't cook it… she just brings it out, but she’ll tell the kitchen. When we left, we didn’t see anyone talking to the kitchen. I left the waitress a generous tip anyway (~ 15%)… its not her fault… it’s the owners.
Also restaurants... if your customer has an untouched entree, train your wait staff to get the manager. There's some valuable feedback to be had, if you are curious, which Rock House Eatery apparently wasn't.
This place is definitely a “before” poster-child for the Restaurant...
Read moreWords cannot describe this eccentric, beautiful little restaurant/bar. My husband and myself had been on the road for around 3 and a half to 4 hours and we happened up on this place, after getting turned around by GPS a few times, and being down right starved for rushing out the door without breakfast, and one stop for gas in-between.
One the atmosphere is fun, cozy, unique, beautiful, just you could tell someone put love into it, and made it their own. A bit of a musty smell, but being literally 15 ft from the water (I'm horrible at distance guessing, it may be closer.) It's too be expected, do not let this deter you, because you will miss out.
The service...maddie you are wonderful! She is attentive, knows her stuff, and with covid and stuff going on, it was just nice too hear the smile in her voice. I cannot tell you the times you could just tell a server did not want to be there, even with the mask on.
The food, holy smokes guys these are by far the best sandwiches I've had in forever, and I don't know that I want make this a monthly thing and drive back for those sandwiches. The rock star maddie suggested, and im so glad I went with! Even though I didn't actually eat while I was there, but a half a cup of soup (GET IT). Even the sandwich warmed up was, it's just a thing now, that must be in my life. The chicken bacon ranch sandwich...my husband refused too share, it was so good (I'm salty over this.) The prices are beyond reasonable, honestly it feels like highway robbery almost.
It's just a definite place you must go if you're a foodie, traveling through like myself, or whatever the...
