How can you not love this place? Nestled down a shore embankment, if you didn’t know it was a restaurant, you’d easily pass it by. Once you make your way down, on the inside, the owner Mike will meet you in the dining room and then walk you into an adjacent room where he will meticulously review the menu on a chalkboard, total you up (cash only or check), give you your beverages and then you return to the dining room to take your seat overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River. Plastic utensils are self serve and the fresh, unique and delicious food is served on party picnic paper plates. Absolutely classic Americana decor while eating the freshest of seafood and of course Mike’s very own Guttenburger. The best part of the evening besides, the view, the ambience, the wonderful food and overall experience was taking the time to talk to Mike. What a true American classic. Get there and tell him the chefs from Philly and The Field of Dreams sent you! I am so happy we went for a walk and found The Fish Shack. Tip: get the table with the binoculars and let the naturalist in you run wild when...

Quaint little fish shack right on the Mississippi River located in an old fish market. Easy to drive by as you can't see it from the road -- but it's right down the river bank from the park. Don't expect anything fancy, no frills here, just good food and cheap beer (nothing trendy). They have a small menu which is only written on a chalk board, but the owner will be happy to tell you about everything on the menu and share the fact that the fish come from the river near the shack. Non fish items seem to include often include ribs, pork chops, loose meat sandwich, etc. Having grown up in the south, including New Orleans and having eaten countless places along the river, I can say that this is among of the best catfish I've had. Fries & onion rings were also great, and as was the more adventurous sides the wife chose. PSA: as of this review, they don't take cards. They also don't advertise, and were surprised to hear we found them via Google. We all loved this place, it was a great place to stop and watch the Mississippi while eating some fresh catfish....

The food was delicious and affordable with a great view! Need I say anymore?! Really cool vibe, the staff was very sweet and the gentleman even gave us recommendations on places my boyfriend and I could stop at on our drive through Iowa! We both had the channel fish sandwich and it was SO fresh and delicious. Definitely get a side of fries because those were fantastic too. I also have no idea how they pickle their pickles (haha!) But you get a tiny piece of what looks like a pickle with your meal and it tastes like fresh watermelon but looks like a pickle. Crazy! Enjoy your meal and drink with a beautiful view of the Mississippi River with lots...

A very special, one of a kind place, just amazing. It's the perfect spot on the river to watch the world go by, and the homemade food happens to be great too. BBQ rib sandwich, mashed potatoes, calico veggies, and cheese curds were all great. Vintage maritime decor, laid back atmosphere, friendly staff. Mike the owner engaged everyone, asking how the food was and if they needed anything. An honest and kind-hearted person, he really made the experience perfect. Only open May - October. Closing for the season soon I heard, so get there while you can.
