Food was decent and decor is cool that it has an old school tavern vibe but the service and prices were what brings this place down. Waited a while to have the servers even come over to bring the menus and then after waiting for a while they were kind of no where to be found, someone from our party had to go find a server and ask them to come take our order. Food was just alright, not a ton of flavor and I thought it was a little pricey for what you get. A smallish glass of orange juice that didn’t taste like fresh squeezed and was supposed to be their “large” was $5. I got two eggs over avocado toast and that was $15, i understand what the economy is like these days but a basic dish like that which doesn’t even include meat can’t cost that much to make. Someone in my party got the “lumberjack platter” I think it was called which was supposed to include three different meats, the server stated they didn’t have sausage so we thought that person would get more of the other meats or the price would be lower but that wasn’t the case. He asked about it when paying his bill and they basically said “it is what it is”. My biggest complaint about the pricing which I feel like was kind of scammy was that when I went to pay, my credit card didn’t seem to be working the first two times and then the third time that the hostess swiped it, they just kept clicking a bunch of buttons real fast and had me just sign and I said “oh I didn’t get a chance to put in what tip I was going to leave” and the hostess said “don’t worry about it” and then as I walked out and proceeded to check my receipt there was a 30% tip added onto my bill. I was only going to leave 20% seeing as the service wasn’t over the top and deserving more than 20% IMO, but I wasn’t given that option. The other two people in my party were given the option to put a tip in when they swiped their card so I know it wasn’t just a blanketed thing for everybody or how the machine normally worked. Plenty of other diners in the area so I would rather spend my money elsewhere at a place with better service and lets me choose how much tip I leave.

Came here for the nostalgia after a concert with some friends, about 10 of us rolled in around midnight, all former or current restaurant workers. From the jump it felt like the staff was not willing to accommodate such a large group due to the late hour, even though there were several tables eating when we arrived. The server was rude, told us we looked like clowns, told me my order was the weirdest thing hes ever heard of (a Ruben with an over easy egg- like corned beef hash and eggs but on a sandwich) then forgot our sodas- the rest of our group arrived and it just got stranger- he ignored all the men in our group, going so far to tell my friend that he didnt have gin on the rocks after telling us about the full bar, and refusing ti remove the sodas he forgot from the bill when we said we no longer wanted them. Refusing to wrap half an order of spinach dip for us once the entrees arrived. Now for the food. Grilled cardboard chicken for my friend- dry and flavorless, cold limp colorless fries and gloopy gravy for my husband's disco fries, my rueben was dry and lacking flavor. We wanted to end a fun night out with friends on a high note of nostalgia in a diner. What we got was a back rooms version of what used to be a diner. Then after all of that, my bill was 155 for 5 of us, with a cash tip ($30 or 20% even after being called clowns and insulted), my card was charged 160$ instead of 155. We will never be dining here again.

I've been seeing this diner since I was a tot and my parents would drive down on Route 4. Since I've been treating it like a landmark all these years, I can't believe I waited this long to finally step in. Inside, the restaurant is spacious, with plenty of booths and tables (and parking spaces in their free lot) to accommodate a mealtime rush. We shared a Cobb salad and a California burger (with lettuce, tomato, and avocado), both of which were tasty and quickly prepared. While I wouldn't recommend Coach House for a first date, there is a charm and a characteristic old-school diner feel to this place. Service was extremely attendant (sometimes crossing over into overzealousness, like when refills for our water glasses were offered four times in a ten minute space), but I wondered if it was because were were there on a slow Monday night. I especially appreciated there was no rush for us to finish a meal, since we got a chance to bump elbows with a big group that rents out the big area in front of the fireplace for their regular game night. Given what I can see about this big, homey, casual eatery, I could see why someone would host such a thing here.

I am not one to write bad reviews, and I am also working as a waiter, so I know how it is, but I really had to write this. I don't remember his name but the older gentleman waiter who worked 9/10 around 12:30am, I had to mention.

The food, the restaurant itself was fantastic, but the waiter I just had to leave a review about. I can tell he isn't a bad guy, nor had bad intentions but it went a little too far. First thing he comes to me and asks is "you chinese korean or japanese? china?" I was kind of thrown off but I'd like to believe it was just genuine curiosity, so I answered. He asks where I worked which is close to a Korean market called H-mart then he goes on about how expensive H-mart is and how he got his new shoes so cheap compared to H-mart, etc etc for about good 10 minutes. Yes they are expensive but talking bad about a market that is originated from where my family is from just doesn't feel too good to keep listening to? Upon ordering food, I ordered quite a lot so I can take the rest home, but he looks up and down at me "that's a lot of food." I am unsure why he keeps leaving comments towards only me when there are others. When the food arrived, I didn't realize how much syrup I poured onto my pancakes, causing it to be swimming in syrup. He comes over, looks at my plate and shakes his head saying, "that's a lot of syrup." He comes by time to time, staring at the plate for a bit, then walking away. At this point I just didn't want to eat anymore After finishing up, we asked for to go box for leftovers. I didn't want the pancake, but my friend wanted to take it for himself. He brought is over saying "yeah I told you that's a lot of food." Very sweet of him to help us pack but he asked, "do you want more syrup in this?" which I answered, "No thank you, I didn't want to put that much from the beginning." I repeated "No thank you" after him asking me two more times. Then what he does is where it actually upset me. He grabs the additional syrup then pours the WHOLE CUP in the to go container with the pancake. At least it was swimming in it before but after that it's just drowning in it. That's where I cut the line and told him "I really did not want that. Why would you do that? Can you just leave us alone." and we left.

Please next time, listen to the customer, stop making comments about what we are doing, stop staring at us shaking your head. After a bit of time, I'm going to remove this review. I don't wish to write bad review just because of a...

For many years we have noticed Coach House Dinner driving through Rt4 and this past Sunday we decided to give it a try being Google had great reviews yet on Yelp the establishment had a somewhat dismal record. Upon entrance we were greeted with smiles by I assume the owner George and the hostess then taken to our table. Seated our waiter provided us glasses of water, utensils, and menus. The restaurant was hardly busy with about 6 tables occupied so it was pleasant and we enjoyed the atmosphere. After viewing the menus, enjoying the decor, and deciding on our dishes. Then we waited watching our waiter go over to a friend of his seated at another table to chitchat and then sit down with him for 5mins. Then he briefly helped a nearby table who asked for a to go box. After which our waiter went to sit at a corner back table by himself doing something by himself hidden from view for over 5mins. Then he gets up walks past us to go over to the other side for another few more mins. Never once in our 15mins at our table did he check in with us. After over 15mins of no service we see him walk in our direction and I mentioned to him we are ready to order. He says “OK” and walks away not to be seen for another 5mins then he pops up at the other end of the dinning area just standing around twindling his thumbs looking around for a few more minutes. At this point we are tired, hungry, and frustrated with the lack of attention, service, and interest by this waiter. We did see a younger waiter that was serving other tables actually working and serving other customers so at this point and almost 30mins in the restaurant we decided to leave. We didn’t even sip any of the 2 glasses of water on the table. We stood up and walked to the front where the owner was standing and I mentioned to him “Sorry but in the 25mins we have been seated at the table we received no service and no attention. Our waiter has not been attentive at all and not even doing his job”. The owner waived his hands in the air as in confusion or surprise. Sorry the negative reviews are all true. Some staff here are horrible and should not be representing this establishment if Coach House Diner wants to survive in this industry. I cannot review the food because in 30mins we didn’t even get a chance to put in our orders. Shameful George - my advice - you need to make some changes...
